What I have currently been thinking about is using a 4-2-3-1 formation with a bit more emphasis on using a midfeld 2, obviously there needs to be signings to improve this, with a new CB and CM/DM but I think it could work very well.

HART

ZABALETA ???? DUNNE BRIDGE

KOMPANY ????
SWP IRELAND ROBINHO

POSS SANTA CRUZ

Would have Robinho and SWP on the wings in front of the midfield 2 with Kompany and whomever else providing them support.

Any thoughts?

I think 4-4-1-1 with Rob in behind main striker. Maybe at home be flexible to switch to the current formation, but we need balance and width. We're not a big team so can't compete sometimes with a battle through the middle. When we used width we looked better.

Garrido can play left midfield well with Bridge. Ireland and Kompany in the middle, or Ireland on the right when SWP injured. I'll say it again, we need width!!

The thing that sucks is thats the formation we played at HOME to Notts Forest

Exactly right. He can only be forgiven for this if he changes the system once we have recruited his signings in the window. Otherwise, it does not engender much friggin confidence for another season.

WHY? Why are we persisting with these? Play anyone at random from the stands. Do less damage. How bad do you have to be to get dropped? Dead?

Hughes should concentrate on getting the team to play one formation well...I'm not so sure the constant changing of formations and the moving around of players and their positions is doing much to promote stability and consistency at the moment.
A loss tomorrow and he probably won't have to worry about it.

Although I am not a fan of Hughes anymore I still hope we get the results required. We've got some critical games coming up...Portsmouth, Wigan, Newcastle & Stoke. We should be getting at least nine points out of that lot. If we perform badly in the next few weeks, I wonder what might happen.

Agreed and with 2 of the 4 away that's a big ask for a team that has played so poorly away from home coming up with 3 points(assuming you can win both the home games).

I'm not sure it's the formation as much as it is the tactics. Although, I would say the formation, at least toward the start of the year, was more 4 3 3 than the 4 2 3 1 we played last year. The problem for me we lump balls into channels for players like Benjani to chase. Everything goes forward. Sven was somehow able to get Richard Dunne last year to play six yard passes and look decent at them. Now, he jut lumps the ball forward. The sideways passes seem to have gone.
We don't keep the ball. For me, it's the biggest problem with City this year. We have numerous technically gifted players. We have very few strength based players. Sven built this team in the mold of one that retains possession, even if it's at the back, in order to help dictate games. We don't do that anymore.

My formation would be similar to last year's strict 4 2 3 1
Hart
Zab Onouha Dunne Bridge (best payed fullback in the world!)
Kompany Ireland (pushing forward in the role Johno played last year)
SWP Elano Robinho
Jo (no one else at the moment, really. Still think he could turn out to be good)

Also, we would play through Elano. Yeah, maybe he is a moody player, but he's fucking good as well. And it's a shame Hughes hasn't found a place for him this year because I think (or thought at the beginning of the year) he looks quicker/fitter/stronger physically than last year, even if the form isn't there.

Who do we play seriously? Someone from the stands doesn't make sense!!!
