Changes in Football Since You Started Watching

It definitely wasn’t.

Section 1(1)(b) of The Licensing Act 1988 amended section 60(1)(a) of the Licensing Act 1964 by omitting the words “with a break of two and a half hours beginning at three in the afternoon”, thus allowing pubs to open all day, or at least from 11am to 11pm.

It was enacted on 19th May 1988.
Am sure there was some change in 1995 lol weather pubs could stay open past 12 or could stay open on Sundays .my lager filled brain (or what is left of it) it convinced something happed then ha ha

Scoreboards getting manually changed at half-time and getting the scores wrong half the time.
Bovril that could melt tungsten.
Seeing street fights, bricks, cans and bottles getting lobbed and not thinking anything unusual about it.
State of pitches(once went to the Baseball ground and there wasn't a blade of grass on the pitch).
Necking shit loads of beer before games and then having to go in peoples gardens and side streets for a piss on way to ground.
Great days lol.

Black football boots. Rare as hens teeth these days

I had a pair of black ones with a tan leather toe cap. They were the dogs!! And six feet long white laces that ended up being wound underneath the boot about five or six times. And goalkeepers had woolly polo-neck jerseys. They ended up about four sizes bigger if it rained.

I remember when they was only one ball, if it was launched out of the ground someone had to go and get it.
If you put it into the crowd and you were winning it used to take ages to get it back on the pitch.
It was even worse at Shrewsbury. if the ball went out on one side of the pitch, they needed a coracle to rescue it from the River Severn.
