next one should be interesting - not least for Wayne & Ned!

20 Owen Hargreraves
33 Greg Cunningham (Allocated after Vincent went to No. 4, played in Carling cup last season against WBA before going on loan to Leicester City)

Dont be surprised if Nasri takes the #8 when the squad list becomes official.

Maybe they should give him a season to understand the expectation of wearing the number 8 at our club and not give him such a burden so early in his career?

What expectation? Having 3 assists and 10 chances created in a debut expectations?

That would be a bit out of order on people who have bought a shirt already so they wont do that.

The expectation of being the heartbeat of our team and best player week in, week out. Don't get me wrong, he's certainly capable.

Cunningham took 22 last season, when Mario wanted 45 and took 33 this season, when Gael wanted 22.

If people buy the shirt before the squad list comes out, that is their problem.

8 9 and 10 need to be taken by Nasri, Dzeko, and Silva or Aguero.

Doesnt really matter what you think, considering they cant change now (theyve already worn the numbers 10, 19, 16, 21) this season, and cant change. Also, Silva will always be 21.. Always has been

Yes, apologies that's right, wasn't it 45->22->33.
At least he has a number- unlike Nedum ;-)

Will next player in will want 33??

-- Thu Sep 01, 2011 5:19 pm --

Correct.

Premier League Rules, Section F:

Player Identification
1. Before the commencement of each Season each Club shall allocate a different shirt number to each member of its first team squad.
2. A Club shall likewise allocate a shirt number to any Player joining its first team squad during the Season.
3. Save with the prior written consent of the Board shirt numbers shall commence with the number one and shall be allocated consecutively.
4. While he remains with the Club a Player will retain his shirt number throughout the Season for which it was allocated.
5. Upon a Player leaving a Club the shirt number allocated to him may be re-allocated.
6. Each Club shall forthwith provide to the Secretary on Form 8 full details in writing of shirt numbers allocated so that throughout each Season the secretary is aware of the names of members of the first team squad of each Club and the shirt numbers allocated to them.

Although since we don't have a number 1 and the numbers are not consecutive we're flouting rule 3, most clubs will be the same. City- ruining shirt numbers since 2008 ;-)

You know I have to agree with this. Dzeko is our #9 and 10 is the heartbeat of the team.

Buy another shirt :-) it last you years.

Vinnie was 33 until Nedum left for Sunderland at the end of August, so VK had two different numbers last season

-- Thu Sep 01, 2011 10:34 pm --

Adebayour, Bojinov and Mpenza.

Need I say more?

Let Džeko keep 10, especially considering the way he has started this season wearing it!

Its a team game, not an individual marketing platform. If the manager comes to you and says I want you to be our 10, you say thank you. There is no other response. I don't care who you are or what your reasons for wanting to wear a non-traditional number.

-- Thu Sep 01, 2011 11:31 pm --

But Dzeko is about as far away from a 10 as you can be and as close to a 9 as you can be. Call me old fashioned but I think shirt numbers are an important part of the game.

Old fashioned ten was inside left forward.

In the 1980s and 1990s our forwards were 8 and 9 a lot of the time and 10 was a midfielder.

Goater was a centre forward at number 10 though.

10+4 were the ones sitting in the middle most of the time though, your flitcroft and lomas or megson and reid. Not the italian fantasy number 10 like Maradona or Gullit.
