Could never charge my own kids a penny. No matter how much they earned. It’s their home not a hotel. Each to their own, just my thoughts.

I was being charged £75 a month when I was 21. . . that was in 1986!!!!

This lad's on a cushy deal.

But having said that we've never charged either of ours rent when they've been back at home for 6 month spells since they left home. And like the poster above said, our house is their home whenever they need it. And it'll be theirs gratis when we're gone.

£200 is on the large side I think, it’s definitely adding pressure for the lad to move out

I think it should have been slightly more incremental than you have suggested. I imagine that’s what he’s narked off about than anything else.

Still seems reasonable for what he gets though but maybe it’s just time for him to move out and find his own feet. He is 21.

My mum charged me 30% of my take home but put it in a separate account and gave it towards my first deposit on a house, one way to get rid of me.

years ago there was no "I wont charge my kids a penny", you worked, you paid into the home.

Just shows how far the standard of living has improved in the last 40 years
