Bill held the record until Defoe. I was on radio talking about Bill's feat at the time and said that actually his record was even more amazing as he'd scored 11 goals in those ten consecutive games. It's also mentioned in at least one of my books, but you are right that most people seem to have forgotten. Mind you many have forgotten about so many City greats - I once picked up a book on the world's greatest international players and the only Blue mentioned was Franny Lee. No Bell, Swift, Doherty... I think Meredith was mentioned but only as a Red!Big Swifty said:What I find of interest is that the City goal was scored by Bill McAdams, an almost totally forgotten player now who served City with distinction from 1953 to 1960, scoring in all 65 goals in 134 matches - vritually one every other game.
How many City fans are aware that Bill scored in TEN consecutive League matches from October 9th to December 7th in 1957? This is a City record, I am sure. I seem to remember Jermain Defoe doing something similar a few years back, and a great fuss was made but there was no mention of McAdams.
I don't know if anyone has exceeded scoring in ten games on the trot - perhaps some Statto could clarify. Bill's is a feat worth emphasising.
Thanks.
