Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

Pep stated winning the league was the most important price. He could’ve fooled me with this line up of too many players out of form or not match fit yet. Pretty much the same line up vs Leeds and Chelsea FACup semi. And we all saw what became of that.
But it’s the most important price, he says. why changing 9? To get these players build on their confidence? That’s not gonna happen if you miss the players around you who actually are in form. Did any of Sterling, Aguero, Torres, Jesus, Cancelo or Rodri gain any confidence? The one exception being Ake. But that’s a poor result if this is what Pep wanted too achieve.
Rest players? Why? Chelsea played 24 hrs later than we did.? And why change 9? Why not 3 or 4?
Not showing our cards? As if we have any secrets for Chelsea ffs.

Aguero must’ve picked up the “it’s not that important” message from Pep as he thought he was as clever as one Panenka. He wasn’t. And never will be. It’s not like he hadn’t missed penalties before. He’s not a great penalty taker. But hey. Whatever. We are 1 up. And 2 up can wrapp the game up. So let’s get giddy. It’s only Chelsea no?

Rubbish line up for a title winning game at home.
Rubbish penalty from our greatest striker ever.
Rubbish performance with absolutely no serious candidates proven themselves to be a contender in the CL final.

Today was all about arrogance and not bothering winning the league. That is not City.
Although I wonder nowadays. Joining Super League FA semi serious. Nor the champions winning honematch to prevent thousands of Cityfans celebrating tonight.

We had a day more for resting our players. But he, let’s take no risk. The fans will understand. Like we would’ve understand joining the Super League.

No. Can’t get my head to it. We bottled it on the night. And we didn’t need to.

Next time I hope Pep is more open and says we will not play our best starting 11. Why keep it a secret.

That’s what happens when you don’t have a penalty specialist in your squad.
Anyone having a go at Aguero needs to give their head a wobble.

Pep played his cards close to his chest and didn’t give Tuchel or their players the chance to play against our best players in our best system. Not that I agree with his decision, but if we win the champs league then today was worth it.

I didn't say we haven't, I just highlighted the possible problems of doing so if we do it for the last three games.
That's not going to happen.
Rotating today was on the back of the CL game.
I imagine the next game will be a completely different line up.

Pep isn't going to rest his best eleven until the final and risk going into it without match fitness.

I'm just glad Pep now knows his best eleven because that's what's screwed us over since he's been here.

Making that many changes will never result in anything good coming out if it but at least we now know we are carry a lot of average players .
We knew that already. We also knew that playing all of them would only ever end like it did.

Not because we are clairvoyant. Because we've seen it all before.

In regards to their 1st I don't think there was much more Rodri could do.

There was no out ball for him to play as he was alone in midfield for the vast majority of the match.

Normally he has Ilkay, Phil, Kev or Berny just in front of him creating space in midfield or Dias and Stones narrow behind giving him options.

Today he had none of them options as the four in front weren't dropping deep enough to give him the forward option and those behind were playing as part of wide 3 which Chelsea were matching with their 3 up top, so he was alone facing 3 players virtually all game.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it looked to me and I can't lay the blame fully at his feet for the goal.

You cannot put it on Pep, when as he keeps saying the league is the most important well 1 win he makes 9 fucking changes, play your strongest side get the 3 points and rest for the final 3 games, but oh no he ducks up yet again
If Sergio scored the Penalty we would have won and then everyone would have said Pep is a genius. It was fine margins in the end after the penalty screw up

Not if we end up losing the league

I’m not going to blame Pep for our performances on the pitch. That’s on this group of players, and it’s clearly an attitude problem not talent

But he seems to struggle with just getting things over the line this season. Just play a side to get the damned thing won. No more false pretences about “we’re only interested and fully focussed on the next game”. Clearly that’s no longer the case? Just last week he was saying the PL is the most important title of all...

It’s like we’re at the final kilometre of a marathon, and we’ve decided to walk for a bit. Either arrogant, complacent or overly cautious
this is how our title run in feels at the moment

Why not play your strongest team ,We don't play till next Friday for fucks sake.get the League won and then rest. It's not rocket science Pep.
Pep obviously think it is much more fun taking our first team to St James Park for the annual "Get Kicked to fuck" game.

Honestly i struggle understanding Pep logic.

This was the day we wrapped up the League.

Now we need a win from one of Newcastle,Brighton,Everton.
