The season isnt over yet, and all is not lost for Chelsea on league and cup fronts. They have however failed again in their quest for Champions league glory which could well signal the begining of the end for this particular group of chelsea players. Not sure where this leaves Ancholotti given RAs past record of firing for failure in this competition. The team are getting on a bit as well now and could well start to break up in the summer. What irony that Jose went back and dumped them on their arses last night. Be interesting to see if RA wants to throw big dosh at this again, and compete in a market place for players where he may not get all his own way!!

It certainly will mate. Drogba's their biggest worry with him being 32 now and probably only has a couple of years left in him, he'll be a colossal loss to them. The big question is whether RA will spend whatever amount of money it takes to replace him and whether they can identify the right player to fill his boots. Also worth noting that Anelka is no spring chicken. Ballack won't be a major loss

For the most part despite them having a chunk of players around the 30 mark, they should be fine for a few years yet, they just need a couple of signings to spark them into life. Thing is, RA has ploughed hundreds of millions into them and he must know that he's gonna have to splash out a whole load more in the coming years. He hasn't got a great deal to show for it as they have been coming second best to the rags and he now knows that he isn't the biggest fish in the pond.

Very good post mate, if they fail to win the league, the fans backing of JT might wither away, he'll become a scapegoat amongst a section of the support for what has happened to their push for double and trebles.
That could start the rot and Chelsea might fall from grace as a direct result of JT's disruptive behaviour!!

I just feel they need a bit of flair and craft. They have zero of which in their midfield.

I thought Ancelotti shown his Italian colours last night.

When they went 1-0 down, he didn't make the team any more attacking and left people like Sturridge on the bench and left Mikel on.

Not the greatest performance I've ever seen from him, I have my doubts over his ability to change the game with subs, which is something that Mourinho excels at.

They need to rebuild their team, sorry i cant help but laugh its a shame what with all their history, isnt that right Deco. Rags have tried saying what if our owners do one, think thats dispelled, but as for Roman, he hasnt looked happy this year, oh dear Chelsea. But they will be ok when the demise happens because they have their history, isnt that right Deco.

they need essien back.and i think RA wants david villa and david silva from valencia and frank ribery aswell.thats what he will go for in the summer.

All 3 would probably cost aroung £125 million. I doubt anyone would doubt rs's commitment if he spent that much!

Correct. And Lampard and Carvalho too. Carvalho has been a very underrated player... All these players are well into their 30's....

Was only commenting on this last night, most of their consistent performers aged 30+

Sturridge is a decent prospect but he wont be half the player Drogba is.

Complete rebuild required over the next 2-3 years

I wasn't sure of the age of some of them, tried googlin 'chelsea squad age' but couldn't find a decent list and I wasn't gonna search through them individually.

There fans are worse than us lot, all week on talk shite they have been saying how experience will show and they can't see them loosing to Inter. This morning they are all shit and over the hill. Get rid of them all, the end is nigh etc......
Only heard one fan who wasn't a plumb.

Youngest player last night for them was Mikel at 25. Most of thier current 1st team are the wrong side of 30 now. Players Like Deco, Ballack and the likes will be on large contracts also so it will be hard to offload them.

The lifting of thier "never going to happen" ban helps them greatly though. I can see them after a few star names ie Ribary but its a huge task they have to redevelop the squad. Joe cole be off on a free more than likely also with Real rumoured to want the other cole.

With the lifting of thier ban, i think any good offers for thier 30+ players will be considered with probably exception of Terry and Lampard. If someone offered say 20+ mill for Drogba, at his age they would probably accept

I was delighted to see Chelsea out last night, They got totally outplayed by a far better side, On Inter's performance at the San Siro and last night it looks like there the team to beat, I absolutely hate Chelsea they proved again last night that there players are nothing but scum (Drogba stamp) and after the game (tiny tears terry) mouthing off to the officials like they did after the Barca game last year.
