Rudiger is a great defender. One of the top CB's in the league.

We could lose him for free though, as he's been stalling on a contract extension for quite a while and his contract runs out this season.

He’s a dirty bastard!

He should have been sent off in the CL final for that assault on Kevin.

It was hardly an assault? He was trying to obstruct KDB, that much is obvious, but there is no chance he intended for KDB to get hurt like that. Unfortunate, but it was a freak accident.

Rüdiger fractured De Bruyne's eye socket through his recklessness, that's the very definition of a red card. Intent has nothing to do with it, he endangered another player. It was arguably more reckless than the Struijk challenge on Elliott the other day and that was a red card for the injury outcome

He was trying to obstruct him. That's it. No chance that is a red card. Fernandinho does that kind of thing all the time. This time the outcome of a fairly innocuous challenge was truly unfortunate, and that obviously isn't great, but it was a yellow card offence at the most.

And Struijk was trying to tackle Elliott, but the proof is in the pudding. Doesn’t matter what he was trying to do, he broke two of De Bruyne’s bones in his face

Of course it matters what he was trying to do. The outcome of a pretty innocuous challenge cannot determine the punishment. It just can't. If you think Rudiger deserves a red card for that then every obstruction attempt should be judged through that lens and therefore also be red cards. That would be absurd. Freak accident, yellow card.
