City to start January spending with double defender raid
Manchester City - Roberto Mancini wants to sign Giorgio Chiellini and Maicon

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has already identified Giorgio Chiellini and Maicon as January transfer targets according to the .

The Italian has outlined City’s defence as being in particular need of reinforcement and is also thought to want to add more creativity to central midfield.

Chiellini is currently unhappy with life at Juventus who recently went out of the Champions League this season.

City have continuously leaked goals this season with summer signings Joleon Lescott and Kolo Touré struggling to find the form captured at their previous clubs.

The Blues have now conceded 27 goals in just 17 games in the Premier League and despite narrowly winning against Sunderland on Saturday shipped another three goals at home.

Mancini is thought to be long-term admirers of Chiellini and Maicon but would both command a significant transfer fees in the January transfer window.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini targets Giorgio Chiellini and Maicon
Giorgio ChielliniI and Maicon head a list of transfer targets drawn up by Manchester City's new manager, Roberto Mancini, for the transfer window.

The Italian has identified City's porous defence as being in particular need of reinforcement and is also believed to be in the market for a creative midfielder. Again, Mancini is thought to be considering making a move for more Serie A-based players.
Chiellini, 25, is thought to be disenchanted with life at Juventus, who went out of the Champions League this season and are struggling under coach Ciro Ferrara, whose future is in doubt.

With Joleon Lescott injured and Kolo Touré struggling for form, Mark Hughes had also hoped to sign a new central defender in the January window and had recommended a move for West Ham's Matthew Upson, who is understood to be available for £12 million and would be keen to leave Upton Park.
That transfer is now likely to be shelved in favour of a move for Chiellini, one of the stalwarts of the Italian national team and greatly admired by Mancini. He is likely to cost closer to £20 million.
Mancini also wants to move for Maicon, the powerful Brazilian international right-back who he coached at Inter Milan and whose representatives have wanted to move to the Premier League for some time.
They tried to interest Chelsea last summer, with Inter wanting to do a deal involving Ricardo Carvalho and Deco moving to Italy in exchange, but this was vetoed by Carlo Ancelotti.
With Micah Richards struggling and Pablo Zabletta only regarded as cover, the right-back position is a problem for City. They may also look to improve the other flank, although Lescott, when fit, could move over if Mancini does not rate Wayne Bridge, who has struggled since his move from Chelsea. Again Maicon would command a significant transfer fee.
If Mancini signs both, they are unlikely to be the last arrivals from either Italy or from Inter, with Jose Mourinho also wanting to continue the overhaul of his squad at the San Siro.

These would be two be awesome aquisitions.

Does anybody know what's happened to Alex at Chelsea? Has he been bench warming since Carvalho came back?

Either Alex or Carvalho would be great too.

Bit weird because one of the articles mentions replacing Bridge and Lescott yet no left back is mentioned.

They'd be 2 brilliant signings though.

Don't mess about, offer them 5mill more for each of them on their asking price, get them both in ASAP, we don't want a 2 week ordeal, get it organised now and then get them in around Jan 2nd-3rd, could do with trying to settle them in quick, get Lahm to and were rockin.

I'd love to see this come end of January, obviously with Lescott out i'll just put Kompany in his place, but lescott would be my first choice,

-----------------Given

Maicon----Chiellini----Lescott/Kompany----Lahm

Would love that.
