China - Impressions.

If these things did happen rest assured it is nothing like that now.

That's a shame. One of my finest moment's using a map of the Great Wall of China to wipe my arse. The great wipe of China. I was incredibly nervous, incredibly sweaty. I'd fought to keep it in all the way to the start of the walk. But credit to the Chinese population that were there that day as despite the cubicle not having a door not one of them stood and watched.

Not sure it's nothing like that now. I think it's a generational thing. The old folk have grown up where things like that are normal and it's hard to change. Youngsters are more "western" in their habits.

Still have the occasional Chinese tourist shit in the street here in Thailand. Much to the disgust of the locals. Not surprisingly.
The last thing I'd want to see whilst on my way to a ping pong show.

Good twitter thread on China's renewable energy push here:

As impressive as that is I do wonder how much they consider the ecological impact. If every nation just said fuck it, we're gonna build renewables and plough ahead without considering the ecology or for that matter the natural beauty, then renewables would be in place almost everywhere. The thing that really takes the time in Europe is assessing the impact on natural habitats and planning consents, you have no option to be a NIMBY in China, unless you want to go spend some time at a state run "holiday camp".
