Chris Bailey article (The voice of reason)

Hoorah for Mark 'messiah' Hughes.

He is going to bring riches and success to the club based on no other fact than...... we need a manager for more than 1 season.

Forget no former managerial success, forget results, forget league position, forget huge tactical errors, forget ridiculous team selection, forget shocking team performances, forget 1st round league cup exit to struggling club in lower league, forget 1st round FA Cup 0-3 home defeat to struggling club in lower league........

Forget all of it, cus this season we will have managerial stability, finish 6th (or above) and we'll all live happily ever after.
Sounds fucking brill. Where do I sign up?!!

Hang on a second, let's change Bailey's words into something that actually reflects the opinions of the majority of non-believers and see who comes out sounding a bit silly.

Those who believe that spending £100m should not result in losing more games, garnering less points, and finishing lower in the league than last season are, quite frankly, deluded.

No, Chris, it's you that's deluded.
This is what he actually said:
Those who believe that spending £100m should bring instant glory and trophies flooding through the front door are, quite frankly, deluded.
Bit of a difference from your twisting his words to suit your agenda.

Win ratio 44% for Hughes. I think winning is the most important stat to look at.

Erciksson - 38 matches, 15 wins
Hughes - 37 matches, 14 wins.

Even when you're desperate to find a stat to back up you're claim it's a bit tougher than you would think.

Take our European adventure into consideration, ffs!

Yes see managers can do a lot in two seasons, they have the time to get a squad together.

Martin O'Neill did a lot in his first season, took Villa from 16th to 11th.

Time wasn't the key to Villa's rise, doing a good job from the outset was.

Doesn't mean Hughes won't do a good job in his second season, because he did a rubbish job in his first. Just means that the comparison between him and O'Neill is flawed.

Yeah but the gap between 16th to 11th and pretty much all teams in the bottom half is minimal, apart from the odd team now and then.My point is that it was his second season that O'neil really made progress and Hughes has to do that too or he will be gone.Having said that though if neither side bought any players over the Summer(hypothetical I know) I think we would finish above Villa next season.

I'm not a Hughes lover myself either and I agree that he has to do much better next season but it has not been easy for him with all that has gone on this season. We have sacked managers at the drop of a hat for years and I don't think it will do us any long term damage to show some patience with somebdy for once.

Makes you wonder why he was being touted as a serious contender to be the next manager of the Rags 12 months ago. Perhaps all those football pundits and experts who rated him know fuck-all about the game compared to geniuses like you ;)

My point, which you've obviously missed, was that he has chosen to twist OUR words to suit his agenda. How many of us have demanded to have "instant glory and trophies flooding through the front door" this season? None, from what I can remember. But let's just exaggerate everything the Hughes Outers have ever said in order sound smug in a newspaper article.

I, and all the other non-believers, simply wanted City to win more games, lose less games, garner more points and finish higher in the league. I think that's fairly reasonable for £100m, don't you?

The statement was made that he was our most successful manager in the premier league.

Europe has nothing to do with it, although if you wish to include wins against Omonio, Streymur etc I'm sure you could find a stat to prove his greatness.

it's a shame that he chooses to misrepresent the sketpics in that way. it's like people on here saying 'you hate him cos he's a rag'. just leads to more arguments, it's no way to help everyone move on.
