so you were at that rag board meeting when they were giving him serious consideration ? lol
how many times are we here on a weekened watching soccer saturday debating how much shit those so called pundits talk ?

lol - you got me there, no I wasn't. But by all accounts he was being considered - probably along with 6 or 8 other names. I just feel that if he's such a shit manager why would he even be mentioned as a possible successor to Bacon Face? The Rag connection obvously has something to do with that, but I don't think I've ever seen Bryan Robson's name mentioned. That's because whatever people think of Hughes, he's a better manager than Captain Coffeemate was.
brian robson already has a job at united,as does pallister.

Yes, but they won't be stupid enough to give him the top job.

Thats no real achievement to be fair.

I never said it was. Rather than take one comment of mine in isolation, why not have a look at all my views on the issue of Hughes. You'll see why I feel he should be given a decent shot at this.

nobody will get any serious consideration regarding the united job untill fergies shriveled whisky smelling carcase is wheeled out of the swamp in a red box.
and they would not discuss candidates while we was still in charge unless he decides to go, which isnt going to happen

I'm not sure I can be bothered, I was just passing a comment more directed at the inadequacies of Robson than anything else.

Forget no former managerial success, forget results, forget league position, forget huge tactical errors, forget ridiculous team selection, forget shocking team performances, forget 1st round league cup exit to struggling club in lower league, forget 1st round FA Cup 0-3 home defeat to struggling club in lower league........

Forget our fantastic home record all season, forget we got to a quarter final of a major European competition (for the 1st time in 30 yrs), forget some of the great signings he's made, forget trouncing Arsenal 3-0 and Portsmouth 6-0.

So for improvement this season we can all look forward to even more home wins, further than a QF in a major European competion, even better signings, even better score when playing Arsenal and Pompey at home.......

I know it doesnt work like that, which if it did would make your argument impossible.

My views are based on what has actually been achieved over the last 12 months, and my own humble opinion is that MH will not get us a 6th place finish next season or the season after, regardless of the money he spends.

If it's based on 12 months, MH wasn't even here then and we were still reeling from the 8-1 massacre. EIGHT months, that's all he's had. Come back when he's done 18!!!!!

If you want to be picky fella, its actually 11 and half months.

Maybe he is not doing quite as good as you thought if he's had 3 and half months longer than you expected. Which also means you only have 6 and half months left of your 18 month decision period, and with a summer of no football to come he had better do some magic early on or you'll be a hughes outer quicker than you know it!!!

the home record since xmas is great - no arguments there however arsenal and pompey were extremely poor opposition on the day , the europe run was a smokescreen - some of the worst teams i have ever seen in 41 years of watching city were present during this years uefa run (and i include divison 3 days ) .

i stated earlier in the thread what my hopes for the close season are - however for a plan b ;-

my only hope for hughes is that he has the balls to clear out players who are not good enough EG - these are just afew off the top of my head ;- dunne (has been flatterd by defensive partners over the years ;- distin and now nedum ), evans(championship player ) , elano(8 decent games in 2 seasons is nowhere near good enough ) and others who are past it ;- boj , petrov - i fear neither will recover fully from their injuries and richards who has just taken the piss this season . if he was to do this and buy well in the summer i will be a lot happier with him in charge

I doubt whether they would leave it until the day he retires before discussing it - if they do then they're fucking daft lol. Obviously, if he took everyone by surprise and croaked in the meantime then they might be caught on the hop a bit ;)

Just to simplify things but if Hughes sorts out the back four then wouldnt we amass at least 10 more points a seasonTo be fair to Hughes he does have us playing attacking football, granted his substitutions have left a lot to be granted but its the back four (especially Dunne & Richards) that have left us chasing games this season.

Totally agree fib. Our back four has been a major weakness (as well as having no front player all season; note the immediate improvement with Boj and Benjani up front on saturday).

If we can provide a top line footballing CB to play alongside Nedum, the weakness at the heart of our defence all season will be solved. Dunne, Micah, VK can then slot in as necessary. Do that plus a physical presence up front and, with our midfield, we will win lots away from home next season.
