With regards to the person who asked why did Chris Foy get a game this weekend, and a SKY TV game at that, following on from the Kompany decision. Well, according to most right minded people, with eyes and even a rudimentary understanding of the game, Foy was a collosal tit in the derby and ruined a good game with a nonesensical decision. However, according to the FA, and as such the Referees association, he made the correct decision, hence Kompany's ban being upheld. Their opinion, albeit an incorrect one, is that Kompany committed serious foul play and should have been sent off, Foy simply did what he had to do. This being their opinion why on earth would they hold him out of games this weekend, he did what they wanted him to?
What I find most annoying here is that Foy will now feel vindicated in his decision. People have suggested it might be a good idea to get Foy again fairly soon as he'll possibly feel the need to give us some decisions based on the Kompany sending off. Why would he? He feels he was right to send Kompany off, and the FA have backed up that feeling by supporting him. He'll now feel that he should be sending people off for such non fouls.
When you compare the Shaun Derry foul on Cabaye yesterday with the Kompany one you can see how the application of the law (not the law itself) is completely screwed.
Kompany went in with 2 feet, never looked like connecting with the player, played the ball cleanly, and was sent off.
Derry went in with 1 foot, never got near the ball, connected with the players ankle hard enough to require a stretcher and a substitution, and was booked.
The deciding factor here? Foy has sent Kompany off for using 2 feet, irrespective of the relative danger or damage caused. This, quite simply, is NOT what the laws of the game state should happen, however it's what the English FA are stipulating should happen. They have screwed with the application of the law, essentially rewriting the law without having to go through FIFA to do so.
