Ok, my girlfriend has booked the christening for baby Lyla next month at a church, Of corse i wont tell her but im a little uneasy about the whole thing...

1. having to pretend i am the Dad to the baby ... when i am not
2. inside i really really hate religion
3. I've never been to a christening and i don't really know what role im meant to be playing.

Anyone been and know what happens ? is it actually a good day out ?

1,wtf pretend,just be yourself
2,forget about religion, look around at the great stone masonary, the light through the hand made windows, the craftsmanship in the mighty oak doors and buzz off the trades.
3,just stand next to your girl and do your best.

its a great do,food, drink, presents, music, family, friends, more drink(what could possibly go wrong lol)..:)

just be yourself dude.
good luck.

The convo between the parents and the priest goes like this:

Do you reject Satan?

Reply: [I do.]

And all his works?

Reply: [I do.]

And all his empty promises?

Reply: [I do.]

Do you believe in the God the Father, almighty, creator of heaven and earth?

Reply: [I do.]

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?

Reply: [I do.]

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?

Reply: [I do.]

Is it your will that [Name] be baptized in the faith of the Church, which we have all professed with you?

Reply: [I do.]

all you have got to ask yourself, yes you know its a load of tosh but is it a battle that needs to be fought.
if no grit your teeth and let those who think its the real deal get on with it.

thats the advice you should take mate, things like christenings mean a lot to some people, no point fighting against the flow if you really dont have to.

i had no bad feeling at all about using my sons christening to have a right good piss up with friends and family, now that is what it is all about - celebrating the person that matters with people that matter.

good luck with it anyway!

None of my kids were christened. I wasn't going to play the game and be a hypocrite just to please the "family", some of whom were so barbaric as to say people would cross the road to avoid my children if they weren't christened.
25 years ago that was said.
Never seen the idiot who said it since.
