they, the dippers and the rags are Pep's bogey teams, which is awkward when you're trying to win things.With Spurs doing us over yet again it’s interesting to see if they are really our all time bogey team or just more of a recent thing.
The answer might surprise you. In fact we are their 5th ranked bogey team.
The table below shows, over all time, the actual result vs expected result in terms of rating points…the true definition of a bogey team since you should lose against better opposition and vice versa.

When I was little my Dad always used to say our bogey side was the team mentioned in third spot in the weak against list…so he wasn’t far wrong!

Wolves doesn't come as a surprise, as I have a childhood memory of Steve Bull repeatedly scoring against us. Maybe I was watching the same match over and over.

Have Liverpool won at our place in the league since Pep was the manager?
They got a fortunate draw in the league when kdb missed a pen and obviously beat us in that dodgy CL game, but I can't remember us losing in the Prem
We've also played them twice at Wembley and both finished as draws
And Pep's record at Anfield in the league is a win, two draws and three losses
So in the league they're not a huge bogey team and definitely not at the Etihad

Won as many against us as we have against them. For a Pep team that's poor.
Then again the record for Pep v Klopp, Conte, Tuchel, Mourinho, Ole and Santo is P50 W21 D7 L22, so we know who the bogey managers are and why we haven't reached our full potential.

For me, Wigan are our bogey team. Maybe not in all-time W/L stats but for the amount of times they’ve been leagues below us and beaten us.
We’ve played Wigan in a cup game 8 times and won just three.
They’ve embarrassed us from divisions below more than anyone (and I’d hazard a guess more than any lower division club has any top division club in English football history):
They took us to a replay in the League Cup in 1982 when they were in the third tier.
They knocked us out of the League Cup in 2002 when they were in the third tier.
They beat us in the FA Cup final when they got relegated in 2013.
They knocked us out of the FA Cup in 2014 when they were in the second tier.
They knocked us out of the FA Cup in 2018 as a third tier club yet again.
Closely followed by Boro.
In the 80s they forgot to bring their kit to Maine Road so had to go to Old Trafford and borrow United’s and play against us in that.
Early 90s they knocked us out of both cup competitions in the same week with Paul Lake getting seriously injured.
Danny Tiatto scored a wonder goal against them with a dribble from our half and it was disallowed for nowt.
In one game we had something like 20 shots, 12 on target, hit the bar once, the post twice, had two cleared off the line, mullered them all game...they had no shots at all...Sun Jihai scored an own goal late on and they won 0-1.
The last game of the season when we had a penalty against them in the final seconds to get into the UEFA Cup and Fowler had it saved so Boro finished above us and got into the UEFA Cup instead and got all the way to the final the year after.

We were top of the Prem under Pellegrini and they were in the Championship, we had them at home in the Cup and they beat us 0-2.
Completely bossed a game against them and were 1-0 up and they equalised out of nowhere in the 92nd minute a few years ago.
I reckon these two clubs would sneak wins against us even if they were down in the Conference.
