Worth a thread considering the season we have had so far both on and off the pitch . The team this season has had lots of problems as we all know but the sheer resilience of the players and Pep and the back room staff the last few weeks at the business end of the season has been remarkable . We now grind out important results and wear teams down because we can’t blow teams away in the situation we are in . Nerves of steel and sheer determination have got us in touching distance of CL qualification and possibly 3rd overall in the league and an FA cup final . Take into account all the off the field issues thrown at us and the unwanted pressure and strain it puts on the club it is truly remarkable how we are and have fought back imho .
 
Think you can include fans in that too.
As we have always shown, in adversity, we are the best fans in the land and all the world.
The sheer elation at that goal going in last night is what football is all about.
We’ve been like a wounded animal for a long time this season.
Last night showed fans and players alike will ‘fight till the end’ and I bloody loved it.
5, hopefully 6, more Cup finals to play.
Our worst season in over a decade could turn out to be a very fine season.
Time will tell.

At times, Ederson Stones Aké Dias and Akanji have all been out at the same time.

…to be where we are in the table is good going.

I expected a drop-off after winning 4-in-a-row and eight years of constant success, anyway. But add in those injuries and the drop off was magnified.
 
There are also signs, to me, at least, that Pep is beginning to forge a new team out of the ashes of the old. The midfield aren't getting as over-run as they used to and the new boys, O'Reilly Marmoush, Doku and, to a lesser extent, Nunes are beginning to find their places. Then you've got Nico Gonzales and Oscar Bobb who only look short of game-time. Savinho and Lewis, I'm not sure about but we'll see.

One tactic I'd introduce is, when we get kick off, just smash it up to their end for a goalkick and pack ten men into our half for the first minute. Those breakaways conceded after 30 seconds like last night and at OT give me the heebeegeebees. After the first minute, we look solid.
 
Absolutely agreed. We've had poor players output this year, some weren't trying as hard as they do. Injuries, ageing team, a real cluster-fuck of problems which come after the sort of generation of success we've had.

Next year is promising again. It isn't all over, we are going to be on track again and all the other teams know it, they are scared, they are realising this year is their best chance.

The club have managed the situation very well. They obviously caused it but I'm impressed with how we have battled through it. Still in the fa cup (I really fancy us for that now) and CL qualification. (Same too), and a world club cup, with a team that is ready for it.

Absolutely. Our goals for is also impressive considering the shambolic state we were in for a couple of months conceding lots of stupid goals . How we have adapted since then with the players we have available has been remarkable. Grinding out results and being pretty solid is a great weapon to have in your armoury, the style we wear some teams down isn’t easy on the eye but effective to get the required result , it has been very different and fascinating tbh .

Re Savinho it’s his first season and yet there’s only Salah in the entire league who has got more assists than him, and he has had a lot less minutes than most of the other assisters. Needs to add goals to his game though
 
As I've said numerous times this season (and as I said the other night), it's been fair enough to question the quality of the squad we've got this season. The last few months have brought forward a lot of justified complaints about the level of player we've got available, and I've questioned Pep more than I've ever questioned him before. But I can never doubt how much Pep and this set of lads truly care for the club - the image of the club and the happiness of the fans especially. These lads give us absolutely everything. They've not had it in the legs this season but they've kept going, kept fighting, and somehow we're still in a position to finish the season with silverware and a top four finish. It might happen, it might not, but it won't be because they've not tried hard enough - which is all we ask for at the end of the day.

Yep, I like it put that way I myself like many get annoyed with the drop off, results, performances but that is well put

Good point and don't forget Walker - a very valuable player at his peak.
 
considering were in a transition period, i think were having a good season, FA Cup, 3rd in the table with a possibility of even finnishing 2nd and looking good for a CL qualification, we have the club world cup which will put us on the global stage once again, we have some fantastic tallent in the youth breaking into the team, and with the correct big signings mid season we should hit the ground running, the last few matches have proved we have the metal in the squad to build on what we have, the seed has been planted for the next 10 years of dominance and i have every faith in Pep to get it right
