City’s Resilience In Adversity

There are also signs, to me, at least, that Pep is beginning to forge a new team out of the ashes of the old. The midfield aren't getting as over-run as they used to and the new boys, O'Reilly Marmoush, Doku and, to a lesser extent, Nunes are beginning to find their places. Then you've got Nico Gonzales and Oscar Bobb who only look short of game-time. Savinho and Lewis, I'm not sure about but we'll see.

One tactic I'd introduce is, when we get kick off, just smash it up to their end for a goalkick and pack ten men into our half for the first minute. Those breakaways conceded after 30 seconds like last night and at OT give me the heebeegeebees. After the first minute, we look solid.
They should ask Eddie to smash it into top bins. I bet he’d score a few.

When you think that:

Bobb has missed 32 PL games
Rodri 32
Aké 24
Stones 23
Grealish 15
Ederson 12
Akanji 12
Dias 11
Foden 11
DeBruyne 10
Doku 9
Haaland 6

At times, Ederson Stones Aké Dias and Akanji have all been out at the same time.

…to be where we are in the table is good going.

I expected a drop-off after winning 4-in-a-row and eight years of constant success, anyway. But add in those injuries and the drop off was magnified.
A very good post that Blue. If the rags or scouse vermin suffered that catologue of injuries, we would never have heard the end of it.

I've been confident of CL qualification for quite some time now. One thing this team and manager is very good at is getting the job done when it's needed the most.

This is the time of the season we come alive and become a winning machine. Even despite all our struggles this season, that winning mentality in the squad is still there. We may not have been anywhere near good enough to challenge for the title this time round, but failing to finish top 5? This lot were never gonna let that happen, they've got the job done time and time again over the years and they're doing it again this year.

We are down 15 points from last season, 5 wins.
With all the injuries we have had we are not far off and could still finish 2nd and win the FA Cup.
Arsenal are down 10 points and Liverpool are a few points ahead of they were last season.
We can push on again next season and build another league winning team.

Imagine where the Dippers or the Tarquins would be if they’d lost Van Dyck, Salah, Macallister, Rice, Saliba, Saka?

We’ve had a season of huge unrest due the injuries, fatigue and off field issues. It’s a miracle we’re where we are to be honest!!

Ederson Aké Stones and Rodri haven’t started a single game together all season.

Imagine where Arsenal would be if Raya Saliba Gabriel and Rice hadn’t started a single game together all season, or where Liverpool would be if Allison Konate vanDijk and Szoboszlai hadn’t started a single game together all season.

We need to bring our own two headed coins, losing the toss is like going a goal down for us

Worth a thread considering the season we have had so far both on and off the pitch . The team this season has had lots of problems as we all know but the sheer resilience of the players and Pep and the back room staff the last few weeks at the business end of the season has been remarkable . We now grind out important results and wear teams down because we can’t blow teams away in the situation we are in . Nerves of steel and sheer determination have got us in touching distance of CL qualification and possibly 3rd overall in the league and an FA cup final . Take into account all the off the field issues thrown at us and the unwanted pressure and strain it puts on the club it is truly remarkable how we are and have fought back imho .
Wait until the season's over before we start patting ourselves on the back

Think you can include fans in that too.
As we have always shown, in adversity, we are the best fans in the land and all the world.
The sheer elation at that goal going in last night is what football is all about.
We’ve been like a wounded animal for a long time this season.
Last night showed fans and players alike will ‘fight till the end’ and I bloody loved it.
5, hopefully 6, more Cup finals to play.
Our worst season in over a decade could turn out to be a very fine season.
Time will tell.

Not sure how you can use the end of the villa game as an example. Yes, the fans that remained went wild and in the immediate run up to the goal they helped the team by upping the volume and intensity. But you can't ignore the many many thousands that fucked off as usual. Yes, they had buses to catch, traffic to beat, man about a dog to see, but "best fans in the land and all the world"? Nah

I need to get to about 87mins with a three goal lead before I feel we're on solid ground.

Lest we forget the numerous bellends on here having the audacity to call these players ‘spineless’ at various points over the winter.
Setting records of games being lost on the bounce, losing derbies when winning in the last minutes, throwing away two goal leads repeatedly, not winning for an age. All whilst being the defending champions of England. Calling that shit out isn't being a bell end.

Don’t think I said that, did I?

Do you think calling this group of players who have given us so much ‘spineless’ was ever acceptable?
