City 3 - 1 Barcelona - Post match thread :-)

The most satisfying thing for me was that lately all the pundits have been going on about our vulnerability to teams that press. They seemed to to think that pressing us was the blueprint to defeating Pep's style of play. Well it looks like we found a counter to those tactics last night. You won't get any better pressing teams than Barcelona and we dealt with them. We showed that we can play in more than one style and counter whatever tactics a team chooses to deploy. That is the genius of Pep. Always willing to learn and change. That for me was the real significance of what happened last night.
There'll more than a few cacking themselves in the Prem.

Sorry if already posted but these words from the Barca coach really struck me:

"Until City's first goal it had been one of the best 40 minutes we had played on a stage like this against a top quality rival," Enrique said afterwards.

"From then on we had a bad time. We couldn't control the game in the same way, because of the errors we made and also because of pressure from the opponents.

"City played very well and pressed aggressively to provoke more errors from us than we did from them, and they took advantage of them."

Last season the Leicester game at home really stuck out as one where it felt like the end of an era. Kompany injured (again) and the likes of Zabba and Yaya looking like they were at the end. It felt like we really did have an ageing squad that couldn't cope.

Full credit to Pep and the board for instantly transforming us. Stones has come in and though he might make mistakes, handled the most potent front three really solidly last night. People must remember the likes of Boateng often made mistakes when playing Pep's style. It's part of implementing his tactics. Not many can solidly perform without errors, Pique potentially one of few and Stones has so much time to get to that level.

Gundogan is a dream. He is a sensational footballer, the complete midfielder. Sterling should have scored, but was dangerous throughout. De Bruyne is world class and Silva, Ferny and Aguero were typically brilliant. It's taken very little time for our issues from last season to be resolved and when you look at the likes of Liverpool (how long since they won the league?), the Rags (Scholes, Rio, Vidic still not replaced) or Arsenal (always had a weakness since the days of Vieira and Henry) - we should be very very grateful. If last season we won the league cup and made it to the CL semi-finals, we can do anything this season!

I didn't think of it like that but that was a team without Hart, Kompany and Toure! All three seemed untouchable about a year ago. Kompany might still return to play a big part but its not like we're as reliant as we were in the past.

Also players such as Dzeko, Nasri who were big parts of the squad have also left.

There's a Hats off to City thread on Redcafé! I mean what the actual fuck!! If they had done this, I would have said feck off, cnuts! I don't want them to win anything, ever. The denizens of RAWK, on the other hand, are good and bitter. Now that's what I like…

Absolutely brilliant last night. So refreshing to watch us with a plan b, c, d....... instead of the dwell under pellers for last few seasons. We have put to bed any fears we can't compete with the best in Europe now and the good thing is we're only going to get better and better. Get in blues.
