City 3 - 1 Barcelona - Post match thread :-)

Marvin I don't wish to sound rude but as usual you're talking bollocks. The ref had a clear and uninterrupted view of the sterling penalty, so no excuse, look at KDB 's goal, Busquet foul, minutes later Busquet fouls KDB again, his 3rd foul inside 5 minutes, no card. Kolarov then booked for fuck all, he gave them plenty he shouldn't have and if you can find me one incident that we got the benefit, I'll buy you a pint. And please don't mention Aguero handling, his arms were right against his side and absolutely no way he moved them towards the ball.

Kolarovs was a yellow card he blocked the man and stopped a promising attack. Can't say too much but I'm experienced in this aspect of the game, yes the ref was inconsistent but most decisions were correct he just didn't seem to get his cards out.

It's not like he waved away blatant fouls, it was more inconsistency.

Look at it the other way. How could ref give Sterling pen. when it was really hard to see if the Barca player caught him. He did but you need a video slow mo to see it. And then what about Gundogan's 2nd goal? Aguero handled it. Arguable as to whether that was deliberate. I can see why Barca players were annoyed.

After playing barca repeatedly and repeatedly getting bad decisions, it's easy to assume bias, but on this occasion I just think it was a very difficult game to referee. Players of course don't help by putting huge pressure on refs. Credit to coaches for not going ballistic. Imagine what Mourinho would have been doing on touchline.
The biggest error the referee made was booking Sterling. If he can't be sure it's a penalty, then he doesn't give it and I can easily live with that. But, to book Sterling, he must be SURE that he dived. As he didn't, what did the referee see? I think what he saw and what many referees see, is the 'Barcelona effect'. The whole of football talks about them being fantastic/unbeatable so, I suspect, many referees err on the side of the 'greatest team' and, subconsciously at least, favour them in most of the marginal calls.

He didn't book messi when he did dive in the box,no contact at all, just told him to get up,that was a decision he took,i believe, because of who the player was,he had no problem booking sterling, also begs the question why can the guy behind the goal ever see anything? they miss practically everything in every game,it's not surprising people think the game is fixed

I agree with this. Wonderful when he's on the ball, but for some reason he feels he can wait until the team give him the ball. Was very static last night and it made it easier to deal with him. 2nd half it was Neymar that was giving the problems, not Messi.

Obviously one of the most skilful players ever, but you still have to work, and yesterday he didn't.
Neymar's a diving cheat - which sends him way down in my book -

He didn't stop him at all, Messi was looking for any contact and all Kolarov did was stand his ground, I'd hardly call it a foul and certainly never a card. And if you think that is, why wasn't Busquets booked for bringing down Dave as he was getting ready to shoot and put Sergio in? Surely that's the same scenario?
He was bent as fuck and only our brilliance got us through.

It was one of the poorest refereeing performances I have seen in the CL. Haven't seen mentioned the Suarez 'throat' block on Stones right at the end of the first half. Another penalty if the laws of the game are applied.

Hence why I said the referee was inconsistent, if you read my post.

I'm very surprised he was appointed referee for this game. Expected someone like Felix Brych etc but they have referred this fixture before.
