City agree fee for Jack Rodwell

Just read up on him and some stats. Sounds like he can be a really strong defensive mid or center half. He's only twenty, so he has room for improvement. Will be a great back up for a wide range of players. Yaya, Milner, Lescott, De Jong. Hopefully he performs better in the back than Savic. Great signing!
 
good solid signing. not necessarily a "wow" signing but I see him as a similar player/role as martinez from bilbao, but we got him a lot cheaper and he is young and english so all in all not a bad first signing of the summer :)
 
We've obviously bought him for the English quota shit, all these rules regarding ffp and quotas is stopping us cleaning up. People say 12m is cheap and better than Martinez at 40m, no its not, you get what you pay for and we are wadded, other people and factors are trying to stop us, if they didn't bob would buy the very best around.

Agreed but he's no Martinez. Like a lot on here hope he turns into another vinny.
 
For 12 million quid this is a great signing.Will cost what...2.3 million per year APPROX on the books re FFP. Great signing in my opinion.Mrtinez was tripe during the olympics and at 40 million,no thanks.

Really looking forward to the season now. 2 more signings-centre half and striker if Edin goes and all is well.

If Jack lives up to his potential he'll be one of the best signings in the history of our club, but I'm not too confident about that happening considering the injury problems he has had the past season(s).
Obviously I hope he'll do fine here, but comparing him with Martinez is just unfair. Javi's potential is immense... and I don't see Rodwell anywhere near that level.

I wonder if he'll be used primarily as a defender or midfielder.
 
The consensus of opinion amongst the Toffee's I've spoken to* about this move is that it's that rare thing, a transfer that's good for everyone.

Rodwell's career had stalled a bit with Everton but he has the potential to be a very good player with the extra quality that City can offer and Everton can use the money to add to their squad.

Good work all round.

*I've only spoken to two so it's not a large enough sample to claim empirical proof but they were both of pretty much an identical opinion.
