Just dug this out recently. Good read - all about the 1988/89 season.

Every few pages there is a 20 questions sessions with different players. It is amusing looking at what cars they drove.

Andy Dibble - Sponsored Austin Allegro
Wayne Biggins - Toyota
Carl Bradshaw - Ford Escort XR3i
David White - Ford Orion 1.6
Paul Simpson - Peugeot 205
Ian Scott - Ford Orion 1.6
Brain Gayle - Nissan Sunny
Andy Hinchcliffe - Peugeot 309
Jason Beckford - MG Metro
Mark Seagraves - Peugeot 309
Gery Taggart - GM Bus
Steve Redmond - Ford Capri 2.8L
Neil McNab - Peugeot 309
Paul Moulden - Ford Fiesta 1.4
Paul Lake - Sponsored Austin Allegro
Trevor Morley - Peugeot 309
Paul Cooper - Ford Orion 1.6
David Oldfield - Ford Escort 1.4
John Deehan - Peugeot 309
Ian Brightwell - Peugeot 205
Nigel Gleghorn - Vauxhall Astra
Ian Bishop - Ford XR3i
Peter Swales - Jaguar 2.4
Michael Hughes - not got one
Mel Machin - Peugeot 505

Compare that lot to our current squad!! Imagine Mario in a Ford Orion LOL!!

Also intersting that 90% said their favourite drink was lager.....

Just thought I would share that with you all - I'm bored.

Ha ha, Swales crusing around in his Jag, whilst team players get the never-to-be-bypassed opportunity of a sponsored Austin Allegro! One of the worst-named cars there has ever been.

i used to have that book. remember most peoples favourite meals seamed to be steak and chips. wonder how many of the pasta and chicken eaters of today would pick that!!

Anyone read The Glory Game - it's about Spurs, but from 1972 and the players are almost totally unguarded when talking to Hunter Davies.

The answers above look pretty familiar from that too. When I read it, about ten years ago I remember being surprised that the players seemed to be on about the same social level as the local bank manager - living on estates of run of the mill 'executive homes' rather than castles as now!

One player, possibly Steve Perryman, said he voted Labour and he was sure that all the other players did too. Turns out they pretty much all voted Tory apart from him,

They were I remember a few Rag players living on the Wimpy estate in Davyhulme right near what is now the Trafford Centre, of course if was potato fields then, they only became mega rich superstars with the advent of the Premier League, now most players in the Championship are on more money than most people, and I don't begrudge any of it

I have that book open next to me right now and Paul Lake DID NOT have an Allegro. They weren't even made then. It's a Montego. Almost as shit but not quite that desperate.

When I was younger one of my mates in Ashton used to live next door to Trevor Ross who played for Everton at the time. 3 bedroomed house on a housing estate. Weird innit?

Great book, possibly one of the best ever football books of all time. I have it and have read it at least 10 times in total since buying it in 1994.
