Not being able to bring your own food and drink inside is the policy of pretty much every sport or theatre venue pretty much everywhere. I'm genuinely confused why this would be surprising in any way.
I must be incredibly lucky, or you go to the wrong places, but I have never been denied access to either the theatre or the cinema with my own food/drink.

You do all know that there is an area where you can store buggies bags etc. on your left behind the parked cars as you go into main entrance? You get given a tag and go collect at end of match
I was unaware of this thanks. but still going to take time and I'm usually against the clock to get to work on time without this hindrance.

Our family sits in two different parts of the ground. One generally has much longer queues than the other.
Where I go in there are usually five security lines. Where my wife goes in there are six. My section contains few fans in comparison to hers and the longest I’ve queued for is 21 minutes. She generally queues for at least 25 minutes.

On many occasion I see people have their food taken off them, but one particularly galling one was a gentleman who had taken three young lads to the game. Each lad had a small plastic bag containing a small bottle of pop and a bag of crisp. I was absolutely disgusted that the woman told them they either drank them and eat them there and then or they would have to be confiscated (a posh word for stolen).

It makes no odds at all to me in that I’m happy to spend money on food and drink at the game, but if I had a young family and money was tight I’d feel differently.

Ps I regularly go to the cinema with two small bottles of wine and some Haribo and have never had them stolen from me.

So you think the queuing is primarily to take food off people not for safety?
Taking food away from kids is wrong; guess I've been lucky not to be affected so far, but agree that's disgusting!
The food inside is terrible, so tend to eat before or after, kids should be allowed to bring in snacks, perhaps not bottles of juice or cans though?

Fair play I often also sneak goodies into Cineworld but I wouldn't expect to be able to sneak bottles of booze into the MEN or a festival

I am interested, which is why I asked.
I don't think it's correct that people can't take drinks to events, it is the rules though, you can choose to sneak a beer into cineworld if you wish but you shouldn't be able to sneak objects into say the MEN or other events where there are thousands of people present.

As another poster mentioned the security from my experience don't take sweets or small snacks away from kids. Maybe this differs where in the ground you sit. The queues are annoying but surely they are for security reasons and not to take away my bottle of water?

It does piss me off though that the catering staff won't let me keep the lid on a bottle of water. I don't think the original posters issue was with his flask but because his bag was too big and he chose to bring the issue up with City and then chose to give up his season card. There are bag storage options available, not sure why he wasn't informed of these by supporter services
Take the top off your bottle and pocket it. Quick search then put it back on once inside. Full bottle with top is a better "weapon/missile" is the logic.
World gone mad.
What next?
Remove shoe laces? Slip-ons become the new mode for footy fans. Return of the casuals.

Tbh it sounds like your ego and financial stance made you give up your tickets rather than a bag, bike and butties

Im a cyclist but if they arent going to be convenient could you not get to the ground by other means?
Did you really need butties and flask of tea for 2 hours of football that you couldnt wait either side or even eat and drink outside the stadium?

On another note city do need to offer something for fans with bags, even a security checked locker for a few pound for those travelling overnight / bike/ airport etc. I have used the luggage place at Piccadilly a few times but something at the club would be good to.
To be fair mate, I always thought the same about people wanting a pint & a pie. Why not have a drink & something to eat before the match, & then wait til you get home to eat & drink again? Works for me & saves a packet too.

If not being a happy clapper is being bitter then sign me up. But too many people with your mentality attend games and are quite happy to get bent over and do whatever they're told even if it means being treated like a piece of shit. Effectively barring someone from entry because he's got food is just the latest example of it. Things are going amazing on the pitch but the match day experience, independent of how the team play, has got worse/completely removed for a lot of fans and I'm glad not all of our fans want to be treated like cattle.

All supposition as a result of your “bitterness”. I disagree with your opinion of me & others who agree with me. We’re not happy clappers but are realistic educated intelligent people. Let’s leave it there and I’ll carry on enjoying the best football we (& other teams) have ever seen.
