City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

Manchester has changed a lot in those 30 years. I'm not sure if I could consider myself a "local" at this point since I jumped ship too. That's part of the problem since it makes it much more difficult for some to get there/leave. Could have done with a train stop, a direct bus lane or another tram track.

I'm not sure how blue the surrounding area is to the stadium or if they are priced out regardless.

Obviously a pointless scenario, but I wonder what it would be like if the ground was near Piccadilly. Probably more tourists actually.

For those that use football matches as their sole method of socialising, doesn't it seem like a waste of money? Not to mention the countless more enjoyable activities that can be done on the weekends.

In fact the same thing can be done by going to the pub to watch the match! Because thats what half the people standing around on the concourse during match time are doing essentially. If anything, a pub is much nicer and less grimy than hanging out on the concourse.

People wouldn't complain if there was an unlimited supply of season tickets or match tickets. But its the fact that for every "chit chat" crowd member who goes to matches, a genuine "football fan" misses out. The latter would also better contribute to the atmosphere.

It probably would make more sense. But people aren’t always logical. And they’re also often creatures of habit.

A lot probably also know if they did ever throw their season tickets in, they wouldn’t end up swapping their Saturdays at the football for Saturdays in the pub. It would be for Saturdays at the garden centre or visiting the in-laws.

It’s more of a culture thing. Some other countries it’s more of an event where they rock up early with a drummer or load hailer.
They all seem to get involved
Maybe the guy on the loud hailer would pick out early leavers ‘hey, where you going?!’
So they dare not move.

I walked around the Etihad yesterday. Everywhere I looked there were new fans speaking foreign languages. Many had half and half scarfs on. Many will have been supporters of other clubs, tourists, day trippers etc. City are no different to Barcelona, Real Madrid, United, Liverpool, etc, in that aspect. City are no longer like Everton, Newcastle, and Leeds, where the most of their crowds are still made up of local support.
I agree there are more tourists, but I disagree that our matchgoing crowd is the same as United, liverpool or Madrid. We still have a sizeable amount of local season ticket holders and match going fans. Compare that say Liverpool, where on a match day you sometimes don’t hear scouse accents.

in every parade we’ve done you can see the huge number of locals fans that we have, but the problem is a lot of them have been priced out of attending. They would usually attend cup games or champions league games, but lots have stopped going.

God knows what we will do when pep leaves and we inevitably get worse. That core group of fans won’t be there to buy the ridiculously expensive tickets.

You mentioned Newcastle - there have been huge complaints online about glory hunters making the atmosphere rubbish at Newcastle.
