City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

The players deserve to have a mostly full ground applauding them after every game, we are so lucky to be watching wonderful football played by a group of players that fight to the end.
I agree its a nightmare getting away from the ground especially after night games but by going early how many late goals have fans missed...its always the same people who leave early so its a mindset thing i guess.
But each to their own and early leavers are better than non attenders.

Been watching a lot of Barcelona lately. Thousands of empty seats all over the Nou Camp. Game after game.

I don't think Soriano, ex-Barcelona CEO, or the City board are bothered about empty seats at City as long as the seats have been sold.

When in reality they should be doing everything in their power to make sure all seats are full, or as many seats as possible are full.

anyone else see the fans in the family stand celebrate when Vardy scored? Camera close ups then showed fans smiling away and some even clapping as he ran away celebrating. WTF is going on there?
I'll tell you what's going on. I've posted this before but people don't seem to understand.

When I was making my way round to my entrance, just past City Square, by the entrance to the Family Stand, there was a large group of kids with Kemnay FC on their tracksuits. They're a club from NE Scotland and presumably they'd come down for the game or were there as part of some sort of football tour. The adult helpers were giving out tickets and those would have been in Family Stand Level 1. We've given them those tickets as we do for many other groups, who you often see before or during matches. So if Kemnay FC have asked for tickets and we've sent them 30, that's 30 that can't be sold to someone else. If only 20 of them turn up, there's going to be 10 empty seats. There will have been other groups in that stand, maybe some of them Leicester fans at Uni or smething.

We also reserve that area (FS1) for CFA players, staff and their families. As far as I know, we just leave a load of tickets there and people are free to use them or not. But they can't be sold to anyone else so if we give 100 tickets to the CFA and only 50 are used, that's 50 empty seats. We also give tickets to places like Manchester University. We'll send them, say, 100 tickets and that's another 100 that can't be sold to other people. If they only sell 40, that's another 60 empty seats.

We do that for two reasons - the first is we want to encourage new fans, which is entirely laudable. One of the most fanatical fans I know among my friends wasn't even a football fan until he came to university up here. He lived near Maine Road and saw people going to the game on a Saturday and followed them, getting hooked in the process. The other reason is that there aren't enough paying fans to buy those tickets at the prices being charged. I think they were asking £51 for an adult ticket in EL1/3 at the Leicester game so that's something like £160 for mum, dad and two kids. That's far too much in my view.

The other major gaps are in the Joe's/93:20 areas, where there are regularly swathes of empty seats.

Cheaper prices would encourage more people to buy tickets, rather than encourage more people not to attend. That would mean we'd have less I've posted before about how I'd re-jig season tickets, charging a smaller up-front price but with people paying for individual games. Then, instead of sending physical tickets to the CFA & external groups like uni's, I'd do it electronically so we always know how many tickets we have and can sell them if people want them, rather than saying we're sold out yet have blocks of empty seats.

Not that City need any proof as they know the price up take, and probably how much, or how much more they can squeeze out of the fans, but against Burnley in the FA Cup the stadium was full with new City fans, Dad's, Mum's and Kids, because tickets were affordable. So instead of giving tickets away for free to groups from different parts of the country, who probably will never support City, make those tickets affordable, like the FA Cup tickets against Burnley and fill those seats with new City fans who can't get or afford a match ticket.

The NS expansion has been put on the back burner.

Exactly right mate, if we’re talking about the same group I ended up speaking to the guy who was in charge of them bald fella with a blue waterproof jacket, noticed the badge not much else. He asked me about food etc and prices and just pointed him towards the bars and what they serve prices etc.

Saw they were sat further down than me but yep funny every time there’s some youth team or club and they’re from Scotland most of the time! In those first few blocks in 133-4? If my mind is right. Between the corner flag and penalty box

I just don’t get all this early leaving?
Best football we’ve ever seen and they’re queuing down the aisles to get out of SS3 from 83 minutes onward.
2 daft twats near me turn up well past KO, miss Razz’s goal then frig off at 40 and miss Kuns 1st ‘cos they’re back well after 2nd half KO.
Then they bugger off and miss Kuns screamer at the end. They saw just 2 of our goals??

Ran for a piss at 87 minutes gone, got up the stairs to my seat to see Aguero score was lovely haha. I think fans take for granted winning these days, it has never been this bad with early leavers.

Many are the fans who sacked SeasonCards off in the past. My Dad his two mates and two of my mates who’ve all disappeared from our match going support all went to Wolves, Burnley, Bristol City games at the Etihad. They’d rather stick tooth picks in their japs eye than pay £51 for a Prem ticket. That’s far far too expensive. They should all be £30 across the board, every ground, every stand (bar the corporates), home and away in the Prem. CL games should be £25 every round, domestic cups games £15.

Great post

they should be giving more tickets too local schools/ clubs. failing that they could just make them affordable and fill the seats with city fans.

I doubt they are actually that bothered. Some people just go for a beer I think which is a bit odd but clearly the case. SS3 is a poorly designed stand too. I think it takes a while to get out. Would have made much more sense to have stairs at the back

Barca attendances are down 30% because of the Catalonia political situation. It means there’s 40,000 empty seats instead of 20,000 on average.

A group of 3 in block 306 left at 82 minutes yesterday and I shouted over to fuck off and not come back if that’s their attitude. I just don’t get the attitude of fans these days and it is completely at odds with the title of Don Price’s new book

i agree with those prices. the cup games as you say, it wasn't new fans, the majority I'm going to bet were long standing fans who can't afford to go regularly anymore. the difference compared to a league game is very eye opening. cup game - lots of young families, kids, groups of teenagers/young lads - you never see that for league games now, its mainly middle aged men. thats what the etihad would be like with more affordable tickets ( not saying we dont have some good deals). match day tickets are the main issue for me.

these points have been made a lot and hopefully something will be done. away prices was a good start.

I don't Mr Price even goes these days. A bit of a shithouse's trick, I am not sure why you were so affected?

fella next to me arrived 5 minutes late, missed 1st goal - came back 5 minutes after half time, missed 2nd goal and left 5 minutes early and missed final goal.

I arrived 45 minutes before the kick-off and did not leave my seat until after the Aguero 4th goal.

I only went then to try and get the Gods awful Metrolink before the queue got too long, spectacular failure that turned out to be (see Metrolink thread).

The infrastructure around the stadium and the public transport system is a big reason for so many early leavers.

People do it out of habit now, it was a Saturday kick off an extra half hour on the journey home isn't going to hurt anyone.

Must be 20k leaving at least with 10 minutes to go.

Have you forgotten how many left Wembley early in '99? I can also remember lots of fans leaving almost like clockwork at about 85 mins at Maine Rd back in the Mercer/Allison days.

Yes I agree, if it was back to the old 3pm on Saturday I would stay to the end.

Trouble is we do not get many of the old regular kick off times and getting away from the Stadium is like being in a third world country.
