I think we are all being played, it smacks of Uefa and City being in bed over this all along?

All window dressing, keeps the G14 from turning on Uefa, plastic enough sanctions for City to more than work around them.

No tricks Tolmie - it is a very vicious attack on us which has drawn real blood. We've got to bind our wounds and secure the citadel.

Let's sum up things that have happened in this damning assault by UEFA:

  • City have had to agree not to increase their wage bill. This sanction lasts for one year. I believe we can probably manage this.
  • City won't be given £6m of money from UEFA this year and £6m next year. That's about what we'll make from our US tour this year. Expect a wave of sold out Abu Dhabi friendlies next summer.
  • City will only register 21 players for the CL. This lasts for one year. Bit tricky but as others have pointed out, not too far fetched we'll not be badly crippled by this.
  • City are only allowed to lose £12m one year and £6m the next. City have already said they'll break even.
  • City are only allowed to spend £50m net in the summer. This will only last this summer and we can do what we like in January. City say this doesn't affect them at all.

This is the best line in the whole thing and tells you what you need to know:

Importantly all non-financial sanctions agreed to would have been complied with as a natural course of the Club’s planned business operations.

What have they actually done here that punishes us significantly? The one season player restriction is the only thing that is remotely difficult for us
It's a first year penalty and pretty severe even if it arrives at a time in our development when we can take it.

What are the chances that FFP bites the arse that made it i.e. a Liverpool or Man Utd? Maybe not next season, but if Liverpool go chasing the dream, and fail on the pitch, like Spurs, then it could hit them smack in the face and they wont have the strength to take it.

Re: City & FFP (continued)

Reading the club statement I gather the following info.

UEFA say 21 man squad, City say no problem, we used 21 last season anyway.

UEFA say freeze your wage bill, City say the wage bill is coming down anyway, plus we can still pay bonuses?

UEFA say spending cap, City say we've already sorted our transfer plans thank you very much

UEFA say you're going to be even closely monitored next season, City say thats okay, we're going to break even next year.

We can control our salary outgoings no problem.
Bonus payments are outside the FFP rules.
Nothing to stop low/medium salary for players topped up with performance related bonus at year end.

Not true. Bonuses are treated in exactly the same way as wages. Think P11/D
But not for the purposes of this settlement. Performance related bonuses will not be included in the wages cap.

Really? I missed that. If that's the case, then this start to look a bit more like a toothless face saving exercise by UEFA because such a clause effectively renders the wages cap null and void. We can give them bonuses based on bogus criteria that they will always achieve. Employers used this trick in the 90's with Performance Related Pay.

I do too. UEFA have co-operated at the end. But we shouldn't be in this position so if Arsenal want to scream, then let them try

Good post but don't forget the suspended fine.....I must admit the sanctions have had me in tears all morning.........I haven't laughed so much in ages.

Funny how our sponsorships are all deemed legit by Uefa despite all the self-proclaimed FFP experts on the net with a few exceptions claimed that it was fake deals... Wishful thinking at it´s best I think.

Have UEFA said what was the problem then?

It is confirmed as being the "Other Operating Income". If so, how do we deal with that going forward?

I note in City's club statement we say

Given the unique nature of the new City Football Group structure – which incorporates MCFC, New York City, Melbourne Heart and a number of other companies, the Club has agreed to certain non-material terms in order to make FFP reporting as easy as possible for UEFA to discern

What does that mean? We account for this income in a different way?
