City launch legal action against the Premier League | Unconfirmed reports that City have secured "potentially significant victory" (p 808)

Maybe it’s a first challenge of what the PL have to overcome, with the 115 on the horizon

We already suspect the PL are in a weak position and running up vast amounts of financial costs.

Are they going to have the resources to fight another battle. Especially knowing City are likely going to challenge every negative outcome

the only thing he really touches on is the fact that since february, the PL's legal team have had to shift their focus from the 115 charges case to this one.

'clearly a tactic' the source said.

It’s pretty hard to believe the club ignored/accepted the original related party rules for 11 years, then waited 3 years after the new ones were approved and then just happened by coincidence to decide to launch a lawsuit about it in the middle of the Premier League's biggest ever lawsuit.

I'm not surprised it's come to this, they're trying to limit clubs spending by linking it to a percentage of revenue but they're also trying to control revenue through APT's, something has to give.

This is confusing, City's deals were proven to be within FMV years ago.
City will attempt to end the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which they claim are unlawful, and seek damages from the Premier League.

Introduced in December 2021 in the wake of the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United, the rules are designed to maintain the competitiveness of the Premier League by preventing clubs from inflating commercial deals with companies linked to their owners. The rules dictate that such transactions have to be independently assessed to be of “fair market value” (FMV).
Isn't it more likely that they are challenging this:
Under the new regulations, clubs would be obligated to demonstrate multiple offers of equivalent value.
The competing bids bollocks?

This is confusing, City's deals were proven to be within FMV years ago.

Yes - but if we didn't have to comply with FMV we could have had much more lucrative deals. So if we can prove that FMV is unlawful we might be entitled to damages. At least I think that's the logic.
