Most football clubs celebrate at the end of the season but City are throwing a big party – BEFORE the first ball of the next campaign has even been kicked.

The Blues will hold their first ever star-studded pre-season launch party at Manchester Central on August 8.

Around 10,000 fans are expected to pack into the city centre venue – and club officials say it will offer them the chance to get up close and personal with their heroes. The first-team squad will walk down the blue carpet – and their annual end-of-season awards will be handed out.

Prizes will include player of the year and moment of the season – even though some of the winners – such as Carlos Tevez – may have left the club by the time of the bash.

New signings, including Jesus Navas and Fernandinho, along with manager Manuel Pellegrini will also be presented to the City faithful. Bosses say that the event – named City Live – is inspired by shows such as the MTV Music Awards.

City fan and Stockport comedian Jason Manford will be appearing at the party to kick off the 2013/14 season in style.

Chiefs are also promising a host of other names from the world of football, music and comedy.

City captain Vincent Kompany said: “Manchester City and music have always gone hand-in-hand. It’s in the DNA of our fans and the very fabric of the football club. You only need to look around the Etihad Stadium on a match-day to regularly see musicians such as Noel and Liam Gallagher , Johnny Marr, Mike Pickering, Jimi Goodwin and Damon Gough to name but a few.

“City Live is an opportunity for all our fans to come together to not only recognise the players’ contributions, celebrate their passion for football and music, but also find out first-hand what’s in store for what will hopefully be an unforgettable season to come.”

Tickets for City Live are available from 9am on Friday, starting from £25, and can be purchased online* at www.mcfc.co.uk/tickets , by calling 0161 444 1894 (option 1, 1, 2) (24hr, booking fee applies) or in person at the Stadium Ticket Office, on the first floor of the City Store.

This is shit.

Fair enough if they want to 'throw a party' - but who charges people attend a party

Liked it right up till they said £25. It's good to have a cost to keep trouble makers out but it's a bit steep isn't it? And I'd have thought giving the money to charity or City in the Community would be better for PR.

................and to the nearest decimal point...........i am....................out !
nah, maybe a token fiver, to charity. concentrate on buying two strikers, cos quite honestly, im worried !!!...really worried..................

I don't understand.

They have a venue to book, security/events management etc, then the music and comedy acts etc, probably a host. There is a lot of expense that goes into booking an event like this.

I don't understand why people don't expect to be charged.

It costs more than £25 for a music gig, or comedy gig. You're getting both in one, with a few surprises i'm sure, and it's all City themed. May not be everyones cup of tea, but great for the kids and I can think of worse events to spend £25 on.
