City pay structure to use Barca Model

If they'd been on this style of contract, do you think Danny Mills & Nigel Clough would have owed us ?

We could also perhaps have made it a condition of Nico Anelka's contract that he had to smile at least once a month ?

And Robbie Fowler's contract could have stipulated that he had to stay awake when sitting on the subs' bench ?

Footballers should be on performance pay anyway, especially those competing for trophies, it doesn't make sense at a club that can't be expected to win the league and get a nice bonus but here it would be another incentive to give a damn and win something.

Didn't Hart earn in the region of £500,000 in bonuses last season alone? That's on top of his basic wage, sponsorship deals, and anything else we don't know about. ;-)

Tot el camp
és un clam
som la gent blaugrana
Tant se val d'on venim
si del sud o del nord
ara estem d'acord, ara estem d'acord,
una bandera ens agermana.
Blaugrana al vent
un crit valent
tenim un nom el sap tothom:
CITY, CITY, CITTTTTTTTTTTY!

I don't know your source, but if true its not a huge amount if he earned £5-6m from his salary.

Joe could be owing us a few quid based on this season's performances then?

From the Daily Star: Normally would not post paper talk, but this actually looks like a real, common sensical story!

MANCHESTER CITY plan to revolutionise their payments to players on the lines of the Barcelona model for rewarding success.

Basic salaries, particularly contract renewals, will be REDUCED – but bonuses will be INCREASED.

It means top stars earning £6million-a-year could double their money if they deliver trophies.

City’s chief executive Ferran Soriano and football director Txiki Begiristain are working on the new-style contracts, which will have the biggest incentives for success in the game.

Barcelona superstars like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas are subject to that regime at the Catalan club.

And Soriano and Begiristain know the detail of Barcelona’s deals through their time at the Nou Camp.

Begiristain is currently going through City’s contracts with a fine-tooth comb and is understood to have been staggered at the basic salaries enjoyed by players like Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez.

City hope to establish top, basic salaries at around £140,000-a-week – rather than nearer £200,000.

They know they have to address their basic wages in line with UEFA’s financial fair play rules and they want the emphasis based more on rewarding success.

Sounds like a good move...Paying top dollar for success, which is what brings in the revenues that pays for it all.

Hope this true. We've been slack on this for many a year, even when we didnt have the money.

I agree, but in order for it to work it needs to be adopted universally right across football, not just by one club. Those lower down the leagues can use specified league positions as the trigger, but I expect us to encounter difficulties while we're the only club proposing such deals. This smacks of trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted, and such well-meaning strategies rarely pan out as positively as envisioned.

Absolutely, lets face it we only have the meanest defence in the league, and have only kept 13 clean sheets in 29 games.....
