We've currently got three players we signed from Villa:

Stuart Taylor
James Milner
Gareth Barry

Stuart Milner-Barry was a leading English chess player and one of the top code-breakers at Bletchley Park during WWII. However he never played for City or Villa.

...and Gareth James Taylor is on myspace <a class="postlink" href="http://www.myspace.com/garethhh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.myspace.com/garethhh</a>

He is famous for 3 chess openings, one of which is his variation of 'the Petroff defence' a name close in spelling to to Petrov. Manchester City and Aston Villa both had Bulgarian international players called Petrov, Martin and Stiliyan, but one of these is a winger and the other a midfielder

And of course one of his colleagues at Bletchley Park was Alan Turing after who the road that runs past the stadium is named.

Wow - this is spooky isn't it.<br /><br />-- Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:30 am --<br /><br />

very clever, his wife was called Edith, which is one letter away from "etihad"
That was his mother. His wife was called Thelma, which is an anagram of Hamlet, who was Prince of Denmark and we've had at least two Danish players play for us.

He represented England at the 8th Chess Olympiad in 1939 in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Where 3 of our current squad were born

At least there's one Barry who isn't useless.
Hook bated and cast out perfectly

His name is associated with three chess opening variations: the Milner-Barry Variation of the Nimzo-Indian Defence (E33 in the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings), (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Qc2 Nc6), the Milner-Barry Gambit in the French Defence (C02 in ECO), (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3 Nc6 5.Nf3 Qb6 6.Bd3 cxd4 7.cxd4 Bd7 8.0-0!? Nxd4 9.Nxd4 Qxd4 10.Nc3),[3] and the Milner-Barry variation in the Petroff Defence (C42 in ECO), (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.Qe2 Qe7 6.d3 Nf6 7. Bg5 Nbd7).

Which is basically the same calculation used to work out which teams will be in our Champions League group.

Our manager Roberto Mancini shares his surname with a certain american composer named Henry, who penned a popular piece entitled "Baby Elephant Walk".

Roberto manages a player named Gareth Barry, who shares his surname with another composer named John.

Interestly, whilst possesing many useful qualities, when in control of the ball Gareth has the turning circle of a baby elephant.
