City u18s 3-0 Sunderland / u16s won 9-2

Class write up. I wished I lived closer to Manchester to get a glimpse of some of these lads. I'm aware of the eds lads, like angelino, barker, maffeo, Garcia etc. I'm always hearing that it's the u15's/u16's that are the ones to watch out for. Brahims name has been going around for a couple of years now, is this now his sort of breakthrough season where he steps ups and gets into the eds squad? Or has he already featured in that.

Brahim can't even technically play for the u18s or EDS yet as he's still waiting on international clearance. Every foreign kid has to apply for it when they turn 16, which he has done and it should come through soon. I reckon they'll fast track him through straight up the levels though to the EDS pretty quickly. The EDS played a non official calendar game last weekend (Manchester Senior Cup is a glorified friendly) and surprisingly Brahim was involved, despite not even playing for the u18s at all so far, but its deserved. He didnt look out of place and they'll want to see how he hands going through the levels. I suspect he'll play the odd game when hes eligible for the u18s, and by the end of the season he'll be in the EDS.

What type of midfielder is Diallo?

I saw in that Dutch tournament a few months back and looked a deep-lying passing midfielder but reading up on some of the game reviews I get the feeling he is more box-to box.

What is he and is he our best central midfielder at EDS/U18 level?

He usually plays deep-lying, yeah, but he can burst forward well as he's strong and has a decent turn of pace. I suspect he'll end up deep-lying overall though.

Who would you say is our best central midfielder is at both EDS and U18 level, mate?

Spot on, looking forward to more of your blogs.

Don't fully know how to answer that if im being honest as I rate lots of them, and they all play slightly different roles! My favourite midfielder hasn't even had a kick so far this season and hasnt few months either as he's been injured - Denzeil Boadu. No idea when he's back but he's utter class. We all know Garcia I guess, though he's never been the best player in any academy game i've seen, yet he's clearly an excellent prospect if that makes sense. I really rate both Kean Bryan and Marcus Wood - both similarly powerful box to box midfielders. Celina is highly talented and has been the best midfielder so far this season when given a chance in his preferred CAM role.

Patching with the u18s like, even if its a bit of a Garcia scenario too, in terms of looking great but not necessarily domineering yet as a CM. Davenport who's joined the u18s this season is a very likeable terrier in centre-mid, and Diallo is a great prospect too. I REALLY liked what I saw of Dele-Bashiru today too - he's got a bit of the De Jong about him physically, yet he's much forward thinking and he's excitingly direct. Matt Smith in the u16s is meant to be a complete box-to-box midfielder and Phil Foden is by all accouts a mini Silva, hence another reason why the u16s are battering everyone. There's loads of very good prospects. How far they'll all go depends purely on if any excel when given a chance, but many of them have the skill set and intelligence to comfortably play at a high level eventually. Just depends on a billion extraneous variables whether that will happen or not.

Are the U16s playing at home at all in the next few weeks, and if so, can you get into the campus to watch like you can EDS games? I'd like to see Brahim play.

Their games mirror the u18s exactly. So whenever the u18s are playing, they will be too - the same team and the same time etc, just usually on a pitch round the corner.

That's how you get in as it is behind closed doors. One thing, if you do go to watch the u16s dont take any pics/film it. Even innocently done, you get a bollocking. It's illegal as they're schoolboys which is easy to forget! ha

Thanks mate, you insight is very much appreciated.

You do this forum a great service with you blog.

Twosips have you seen anything of Taylor Richards?

Nope, he's mega young so wont get to watch his games for a while as hes with the 15s i think. He's doing well though apparently if this is anything to go by! (Someone tweeted that at me earlier)
