City v AC Milan post match thread

I fear we will be slow out of the blocks again. We won’t be up to speed for a good while. Hopefully we can get a proper defence on the pitch before Wembley. The maroon kit looked good and should be our second kit.

It’s a bit of a myth that we start seasons slowly. At least as far as results go.

Even the year we lost the opening game at Tottenham, I don’t think we conceded another goal until about October.

This tour is purely a money maker and about growing the brand .. (not a bad thing by the way).. because the footballing benefits are zero

I’ve been over here nearly 10 years now, and still couldn’t believe how many blue shirts eeee there tonight.
Tons and tons of kids with OVO tops on - and they know all the players
Next generation stuff

Kalvin Phillips takes home 150 grand a week.

Let that sink in
I’d have to work at least 4 years to match that. An abysmal signing has to go down as one of the worst in the clubs history.

My biggest takeaway from the match, aside from what most of us already knew (Bobb’s your uncle), was that Callum Doyle looks incredibly assured, just does not get phased under pressure, and has a knack for doing exactly what he needs to do to defend well, especially one-on-one chances. Oh, and he is a unit.

It’s too bad that we don’t really need another CB at present, otherwise I would say he should stay with the senior squad this season.
If he was right footed, may have had more of a chance. Not that being left footed is bad

I'm guessing you never got to see Lee Bradbury or Buster Phillips or Pointy McMannaman or William Bony or the underwhelming sea of shit we have signed in history. Kalvin is nowhere near and I mean nowhere near one of our worst signings as a footballer.

He might be the poorest value from a monetary pov, however that is a different matter. It could be worse, we could have paid 85 million for Anthony. Lol.

Looks like we're going to start the CS with a team of kids and a barely fit squad for the start of the season and we look mile's off it.
Barca next which will be tough and can't see us wanting to show our hand in the Chelsea game and we play them in the league 15 days later.
The PL won't be nearly as forgiving and neither will those red bastards in 14 days from today. Bit concerning but Pep knows the score.

Exactly!

Take the Community Shield alone, Arsenal done us a few times, Leicester, Liverpool and the Rags all done us...

We all know the outcome of those seasons.

Champions.
I’m sure Pep has said summat like it’s a pre season game, I’m not tiring players out just to win this eggcup.

Doyle and Akanje give the term defensive wall a whole new meaning. Don’t run into that.

I don't mind Phillips or any player making a mistake. But a player being irrelevant is just not acceptable. We play with 10 players when he is on the pitch. He doesn't foul, he doesn't tackle, he doesn't intercept, he doesn't block, he doesn't create, he doesn't run. I'd be shocked if any of the kids over 18 years of age couldn't do a better job at some element that impacted the game.

We can not play him again ever. He is only preventing us from seeing another possible solution in midfield.

Again, I've no issues with mistakes. They might look bad but that's ok. He just doesn't try or he just can't do it. Poor guy needs a future elsewhere now.

If he leaves we`d have to look for a defensive midfield smiler to replace him. Phil Jones anyone.

As long as we are getting through the games without injuries then things are going pretty well. Hopefully, Oscar can establish himself as a first team player when the season starts. He has the ability.

If Kalvin can string a couple of decent performances together, that increases our chances of selling him on or loaning Phillips back to Leeds.

There’s Blues crying on social media that American Bkuea can better access to the players. Thst might be true but give me better access to watching the Prem games live, any day.
