City v Boro post match

we are lucky that should we win the league this year this match will mean nothing, its how we do against our immediate rivals that count. beat Chelsea scouse and co and we'll be champions.

he doesn't seem to have that little extra mental strength that would make him the equal of players like Messi.

Neither do 7.4 billion other people.

Bell, like Silva, was a midfielder who Silva often gets compared to. But every full season he played for us, Bell got goals in double figures. Silva's only done it once.

FFS, every midfielder for us gets compared to Colin Bell. Honestly, it's ridiculous.

another thing I'd like to see.
when a team come for a draw and time waste at any given opportunity why should there then be "added minutes"? this is for any team. once the dead lock is broken by the home team play to the final whistle, don't give them the minutes they have wasted to get a goal. if there is a stoppage wipe it out and tell them why you have. also book a keeper early, all keepers not just our opponents. all fans pay good money to be entertained and the spoiling teams do just that.

And you're proof that having a player as a mate doesn't provide objectivity.

I'm not saying he isn't a good player or even that he doesn't battle. He has great talent but like a few other players, he doesn't seem to have that little extra mental strength that would make him the equal of players like Messi. Yesterday Aguero scored his 150th goal for us and needs 3 more to catch Colin Bell. Bell, like Silva, was a midfielder who Silva often gets compared to. But every full season he played for us, Bell got goals in double figures. Silva's only done it once.

I agree he should have been subbed and said so at the game. Nolito should have been on for him, or maybe Kompany with Kolarov moved up into midfield. But getting kicked, as he does, as Aguero does, as Sterling does, has no relation to mental toughness. I don't think those other two have enough of it either by the way. With Silva and Sterling it shows through their reluctance to shoot even when in good positions. To me, that indicates they're more worried about missing than scoring and that's the sort of attitude I'm taking about.

If they are worried about missing when an opportunity to score presents itself then passing to another player should be their number one option rather than encouraging them to do something they seem mentally incapable of doing successfully.
We already have a disgustingly bad conversion rate so why add to it with probably a half hearted goal attempt by players who are merely practising the goal scoring act against their better judgement ?

A long week certainly took it's toll in the 2nd half yesterday that said we should have been 4 or 5 up at half time as we played some superb football first half. Also cannot believe we were so deep in injury time and unwilling to do everything possible to stop that cross coming in the box. Still some mental issues for pep to sort out with a few players for me and he needs to rotate the midfield as Silva, kdb, and gundogan all prefer to play inside than outside leave 1 on the bench and play 2 proper wide players.

At the end of the day, Boro did exactly what they came to do:

Not concede more than one, and then start pressing us from the 85th minute.

A lot of teams are happy for us to pass it around outside their box.

Pep was correct yesterday that we need to be better in both boxes.
I watched their game against Arsenal and they had the better chances and could have won let alone draw.

Yesterday they defended very very deep. Negredo got totally isolated and Traore was picking up the ball and running with it from the edge of his own penalty area rather than the halfway line. The point against Arsenal was the least they deserved. Against City this was a game which City did not deserve to win because we could not turn possession into clear chances.

reminded me of when Mancini was in charge yesterday when teams would not go toe to toe with us and we would run out of ideas. It's going to happen a lot more this season, why go high up the pitch to chase our centre halves for the ball when the opposition can sit and be organised in two banks of five.

I hope Gabriel Jesus can be an answer to this when he arrives, someone who can move the ball out of a blind alley in to the path of someone who can hit the back of the net. How long till he can play is it December or January we get him?

Last sentence is bang on. Shoehorning those three into the side repeatedly is repeatedly leading to performances that are inconsistent and patchy. Lots and lots for Pep to chew on over the international break.
