City v Napoli Post Match Discussion Thread

Apparently , swarm and suppress>4-2-fantasia

Nasri did fuck all other than take too many touches and drag the ball around in circles. Typical shit, trying to be tricky he passes off his heel to no one.

Hopefully, some now see Kolarov's a massive threat to score.

I would say the only major fault was not starting Richards... it's well known that Richards is the better attacking full back and we didn't throw much at Napoli. Micah to start and then overlapping Nasri all the time... same on the other side with Clichy on, both need to overlap and that then helps Nasri and Silva. Didn't see much from either of them tonight because Napoli just pressured them the whole game, their full backs didn't need to worry about Zaba or Kolarov running at them.

Second half would of been more ideal to have Zaba and Kolarov on, had we had Richards and Clichy starting we would of probably put a few goals past them first half.

fortunately Fulham play tomorrow, as I can see a result being real hard to get Sunday. Our lads will be knackered.

Hopefully Milner will be fit. We can also bring in Johnson, Tevez, Richards and Clichy to the starting line up. Should be fresh enough.

Mancini isn't good enough for European competitions, tbh.
why don't ye just fuk off back to the "bridge of sighs" cockernee wankboy.

Funny how some City fans criticize Mancini but I cop all the insult. I'm just stating my opinion and you don't have to agree with it.

Width was what was needed. We seemed shy of using it and played too narrow at times, and we have been guilty of this before; trying to be clever and just walking the ball into the net.
But it will come, I just think we need to relax.
Some fans have been guilty of the old Malcolm Allison syndrome of believing that just because we can rip open defences in the prem then we can do the same in Europe.
It isn't like that, it is a much more sophisticated mindset that is needed.
I'm not overly happy with the result but it's a learning curve for us and one I think we will build on.

Vinny diving in unnecessarily and Lavezzi hit the post.

Vinny fannying about on the ball on the touchline and giving their guy a 1 vs 1 against Hart. Reminiscent of Vinny fannying about against the Rags.

Vinny saving on the line though. I do love Vinny, but he needs to learn. Franco Baresi he ain`t.

I can`t remember what Lescott did too wrong to be honest.

Scapegoat.
vinny also cleared off the line and made a couple of very important last ditch challenges. Lescott played well only thing that frustrates me is he scored for fun while at everton and with us he is lacking.

I don't think it is a matter of picking a scapegoat we played ok, Napoli stopped us from playing and did it well.

and remember if those shots that hit the bar went in it would be a different matter now.

Agree mate - see my previous posts about chances going in and Vinny clearing off the line.

Just saying that Lescott was more solid than Vinny tonight.

I'll be first one to say that Napoli's manager got the best of us, really.

Mancini failed to recognize that they've come prepared to defend that last pass around/in front of the box. I said it at the end of first half - we will not get through the middle.

So - what do we do in the 2nd? We keep trying to the middle, and keep failing.
After a while, you could just see that our players have no clue what to do with the ball offensively.

And it's not even only Mancini, I am shocked that players themselves, especially guys like Silva and Nasri do not see the cork in the middle of the field - but just keep pushing on and on...giving away countless possesions.

Alan Cork retired years ago, pal. No way he played tonight.

:-)

I think they both had their ups and downs. Vinny made some very uncharacteristic glaring mistakes but Lescott made me nervy a few times. But both also had some great play interspersed.

Played into their hands tactically. They had the middle locked up. Nasri and Silva like to come inside. Kolarov and Zabaleta are not gonna give as much width going forward as the other full backs. Needed to get down the line and never did, live and learn.
