City v Shakhtar Post Match

He put in as many as Clichy ever did lol.

Being serious though, Shakhtar overloaded both wings to try and exploit our wingers not tracking back enough and I thought Delph handled it better than Walke, especially in the first half. This restricted them getting forwards somewhat, so I'll forgive the lack of overlaps last night.

Sane still got in more down the left than Sterling/Jesus did on the right, so Delph did well occupying one of their right sided players at all times to allow the one on one situation for Leroy.

I did miss Fernandinho out on my first post too. He was also superb in snuffing out their counterattacks.

Did nobody like the ball walker slid inside the fullbk with perfect weight for a marching Kevin to collect and present Rah with a gilt edge 1 on 1...i thought it was very tidy, almost merlinesque

Thought several of our players were a little off their A game last night. Merlin especially looked to have put on John Stones boots by mistake.

However still did enough, surely the sign of champions to play their normal game poorly & still win by 2. Unlike the park the bus kick & rush lot.

Pretty decent game last night, was pretty impressed with Shakhtar in the first half, they were very organised and set up well, probably the best we've faced this season. Great game from Delph and Stones continues to grow in confidence. Onto the next one!

I thought Walker had a poor first 30 mins, bad touches, missed block tackles etc,but his speed stopped a few through balls reaching their intended target.

He was better in the second half and the ball you mention was perfect.

His covering of the space behind Stones is very impressive and important.

Got to love some of the comments on here about below par performances and such a such was poor and he didnt do this etc etc
If you believe we can turn up for every match we play and blow a team away 5 - 0 with 100% possession 100% pass completion and spend the entire time of the game in the opponents penalty area you really should watch another sport.
SD are a fine side they were always going to be dangerous and cause us problems - its what good sides do. They have some very talented players (if I was Pep and City I would be in for Tyson at the first opportunity - he breaks the midfield line and attacks the back 4 as well as any midfielder Ive seen) It doesn't mean we were poor. We had to adapt the way we played without necessarily being pragmatic defensively and compromising our style. We overcame them in the end and should have scored a hatful. Much as I enjoy us pumping the likes of Watford or Palace by five or six, that won't prepare you for Real Madrid, BArca, Bayern, Juve or other long standing CL sides who know how to play at this level and where our long term aspirations of success lie. It follows if we can adapt and learn to beat these types of sides then beating the likes of Chelsea and Spurs and United should follow. Another big test Saturday. Cundy reckons we can't stop Chelsea scoring if we defend like we did last night - I beg to differ. Lets see what we've got against last years deserved Champions. Bring it on.

Did anyone else notice pep getting rather angry at fans for leaving early when we were only the 1 goal up? I understand people leaving early if the game is done and dusted but thought it was rather poor people left at that stage

First big test of the season so far. But weathered the storm, and came out second half with a convincing display of adapting to shaktars game. The missed chances would have count if not for us winning 2-0. On another day we would regret not finishing. A few players were a bit greedy than usual but with how they have played collectively in the last few games can't blame them, might as well try to put their names on the scoresheet than on the assist list.
Read something on the Official site (Fernandinho comment) about strikers competing against each other on scoring goals. Made me think about some of the decision making tonight (especially from Sane and Aguero). Nit picking I know but this happened a lot last year and we know what Pep thought of our wastefulness in front of goal, time to get it sorted when re-running the match during training which I'm sure they will.

AS annoying as it is - it's not a behaviour we will be able to change - its frustrating but what can we or Pep do

I think the sheriff at centre half has started this season oozing with confidence. Delphino at left back could be a god send and he didn't look out of place imo. The whole team was is buzzing, shakhtar give us our first test from a decent team and they wasn't no slouches so it was good to see us respond in the way we did. Kdb is just pure class at the minute. Another clean sheet. Onwards and upwards.
