City vs Villa - post match thread

Obv happy with the win but tbh at this point I will take the COC, top 4 place, win against the rags and as far as we can go in the CL. The team just doesnt have that tempo, fluency or intensity that we are all waiting for. Its just not happening. Upside is we have KDB and Sammy to come back real soon and help us with the run in. For me Boney just doesnt cut the ice so unless Pep can can get out of him what the management thought they could he will have to go.

In the first half whenever we broke out from defence we nearly always stopped, paused and then passed backwards, allowing the opposition defence to get back.
This is a common feature of our game at home and is puzzling considering we usually have a lot of attacking players in the side.
Why can't we move it up field quickly with lots of players getting forward?

Sadly, I don't think we can do that any more. I genuinely believe I could set a team up to play against us right now. We've got no 'wow' factor. Our bigger players, those who could (?) make a difference....well, they're not up to it. In my opinion, and only my opinio, our 'fear factor' players don't have it at this moment in time:

Silva is pedestrian at best, and certainly doesn't do the business often enough - looks amazing in a good team that is firing, but when the team is struggling I just don't think he has it in him to lift it on his own.

Yaya is no longer able to go on those incredible runs, and I can't see it returning - he'll still have a few good games left in him, but not enough to carry the team, which he has done in the past.

Sterling - nope.

KdB, really unfortunate with the injury and it'll take time for him to get match fit again - he's been missed.

Aguero - great, great player, but again just isn't firing on all cylinders, and won't carry the team.
Agree with almost all your take on the current situation. Silva used to run the game but now we wouldnt miss him if he didnt play - sad really. Sorry but just cant fault Sergio - I think he is the one big player that never lets us down.

And yet in the last week alone, we've won a major trophy and picked up a 4-0 win. You can add a very good CL result to that if you take it back ten days. I agree there is transfer work to do in the summer, though.

Every single time. It's because we don't break with pace. In basketball terms, we don't know how to work a fast break. Get the ball quickly to the flanks (we do this well), then have midfield and Aguero busting a gut to support the break - this is where we fall down. Yaya, Silva, Fern etc. just amble forward, the bloke bombing forward them has no option but to stop, turn around and play the ball back. We then go into 'pass the ball slowly from side to side' mode hoping that the opposition get bored and forget to mark Aguero!

It might have been a 4-0 win but let's not kid ourselves Villa were dreadful and collapsed as soon as we scored to the point their number eight I think just stopped running when he was muscled off the ball,an incredible lack of fight! We are slow, too many players misfiring and we seem to have lost our fluency except in patches. Bony obviously doesn't help in this he slows everything down even more if the ball doesn't actually bounce off him.I cannot believe he is so bad, when we bought him I was quite pleased!

I go with PB I would be happy with the cup,top four, beat the rags and go as far as we can in the champions league.Forget the title we are miles off the pace for that.

I get that, but were you not bored today? We were that bored in 110 that we spent 20 minutes singing to a pigeon. It was a laugh, but the reason was that the game was boring.

I'm just hoping it's an aberration and that Silva and Yaya and Sterling and Aguero will all wake up, take league games by the scruff of the neck and get the business done.

I was a bit bored, I must admit but I'm not writing anyone off with a quarter of the season remaining.
