Anyone had this? I was really pleased with the event so thought I'd do the survey to give them good feedback. There was a question asking if I felt closer to the club after it, which I answered yes to. Then they asked why, so I said it was because I (and others) felt distant from the club and that they didn't really care about us core, local fans. Something like that - a huge free event - made me think that they did.

I should have known better. Next question - 'How much would you be prepared to pay for a similar event in the future?"

Needless to say, my warm feeling towards the club evaporated in an instant. Does no one at this money-grabbing club have a brain cell?

Haha I felt the same... Needless to say my answer was £0!!

Same here, especially as it was a tank of petrol & 2 nights in a hotel for us. In all fairness, only did it this year because (a) it was Pep, (b) we visited family while in Manc and (c) it was Pep ;-o

I know where you're coming from OP. I answered £0 and said I wouldn't be prepared to pay for future events. It would be a shame if last weekends event was a trial run to see how much they can get fans to pay out for future events.

I really enjoyed the weekend, but on top of season tickets and merchandise spends I think free entry to something like this is more than fair in return. Hopefully the club will see that too.

Thought it was a great day and fair play to city, but an interesting question was would you do it again if (pep ) new manager wasn't there.
Not sure I would do it again ,but great as a one off
Would others ?

I also answered £0 and I said I thought it was good as a one off but wasn't sure about having it on a regular basis.

Did anyone else notice that we didn't have our Mascots there? A few children that I know were asking if I had seen them. Strange that we had a weekend which had so much for the children but no mascots. Just saying like..............

The problem with free events is people book a place and then decide on the day if they are going. Facebook was rife with comments such as "just booked three tickets for each day, will choose which to go to later" I run numerous events, nothing on this scale but never get more than 50% attendance for free events. There were hundreds of unclaimed lanyards at the door and people who went on the Saturday say it was quitter than expected.

I would charge £10 per day or £15 for the two and refund entrance fee against merchandise or drinks sales. The small charge forces people to commit rather than just grab free tickets

It seems a bit like certain Family Stand and £299 ticket holders;-)

Absolute nail on head there mate.

Good post. Hard to disagree with that. I don't think anyone would have an issue if the club came out and said that when putting on another similar event.

But it was just the somewhat grasping attitude of "Well if you enjoyed it how much would you be prepared to pay next time?" that pissed me off. The club seemingly built a bridge between us and them then promptly dynamited it as, soon as we set foot on it.

The other thing that annoyed me and I didn't realise until after I'd filled it in was that Soriano & Begiristain were both there with Pep. Would it have killed Soriano to have come out himself to say a few words?

That sums it up well.

I get the point about charging - how about £20/ticket, refunded against your next ticket purchase, or your next Seasoncard payment, or merchandise in the shop? Providing, of course, that you actually attend.

Does the attitude of the current players who are totally unwilling to interact with the younger fans annoy you as it does me pb ?

Can't say I get too worked up about it. That's the way it is these days. They live behind electric gates and drive cars with blacked out windows.

Gone are the days when players like Buzzer would happily let a star struck youngster sit and have lunch with him and Colin Bell would come over and have a chat if he was in the restaurant he owned and you were eating there.

A lot of other premier clubs manage it quite well, from our own experience Everton players will sign as many autographs/photos etc as you want.
As an example my youngest had no idea who the likes of owen,Clements, Hartford etc were on Sunday.
50% of the first team were within 30 mins of that event on Sunday it would have done no harm at all for them to judge a competition or present a prize to a youngster and give them a memory that would have stayed with them for life

I heard a story a few years ago about Richard Dunne being asked (via the club) to open a fund-raising event at a school for kids with special needs or something similar, as it was near his house. The reply came back that he was sorry but he had something else on and couldn't do it. On the day, Helen his wife turned up at the event and someone said something about it being a shame Richard couldn't be there. She looked puzzled and said he was sat at home watching the tv so she rang him and told him to get down there. When he got there, he asked why they thought he couldn't do it and they told him what the club had said. He went mad as they'd said no and never even asked him.

As I said earlier, Soriano & Begiristain were both there. Why didn't they show their faces? Garry Cook certainly would have done.

Because it wasn't about them?

What could they have said that would've added to that particular event?

It was a family weekend not an AGM.

I saw Soriano on the Sunday happily shaking hands and chatting and having his picture taken , bit harsh to say he didn't show his face when he actually did

Agreed he did and I had a brief chat with him. He was very visible on both days walking through the crowd and chatting.
