CL Last 16 vs Barcelona (feb. 24 & mar. 18)

Re: CL Round of 16 (Draw on Monday dec. 15th)

It will be a case of.......ball opens, and it`s Real Madrid.....and they when they come to draw the ball of the opponents they say...

"Real can only play Manchester City due to the fact that of the clubs left TV dictates that we must play on the same day as Real, we can`t play the same night as Arsenal who must draw Monaco....blah blah blah".

Re: CL Round of 16 (Draw on Monday dec. 15th)

Put it this way, we want to avoid Barca and Real. But every team wants to avoid us!

Re: CL Round of 16 (Draw on Monday dec. 15th)

Avoid Real and Barca and I fancy our chances against any of the rest. Atletico aren't the team they were last season - no Costa, Courtois, Luis etc. Dortmund aren't as good as they were when we last played them but that could prove to be the trickiest away game of the lot. Porto and Monaco are poor really and our best possibilities of going through. We battered Porto a few years back in the Europa League and we should be able to cope with them easily enough.

In order of preference:-

1 Monaco
2 Porto
3 Dortmund
4 Atletico
5 Barcelona
6 Real

I'd be very confident against 1&2, rate 3&4 as 50/50 and 5&6 as unlikely.
So Real Madrid it is.

thats exactly how I would put it, except I'd think that athletico and barca are about equal (as in I'd rate our chances against the two as equal). Barca's forward line can really hurt us, but their defense and midfield is weak/ageing/slow. Athletico are stoke on high, they can be really frustrating to play against and scoring against them might be tougher and their set piece proficiency is dangerous, but overall they lack the quality that Barca possess.

Well if that colourful graph is anything to go by then there are two teams you wouldn't mind facing that are the favorites for us to be drawn with.

Saying that, I don't particularly want to be playing Dortmund on the back of them having a 5 week winter break which will likely get them back some much needed fitness and key players back from injury.

Dortmund are not the same team as the one that got to the final a few years back, but they showed in their first group game against Arsenal that they can still be a lethal team.

That's a really interesting table, thanks very much for that. Can one of the mathematicians among us clarify if this is accurate or not?

According to my pie chart, it is correct, yes.
