Thought Id kick off this thread with this one from Neil Young a huge selling album from 1972.

Harvest - Neil Young

After the supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young split, Young recruited a new group of country session musicians, which he christened The Stray Gators and recorded a country rock record in Harvest. The record was a massive hit, producing a US number one single in "Heart of Gold". Other songs returned to some usual Young themes: "Alabama" was "a powerful track and follow up to 'Southern Man' from his previous album, "Words (Between the Lines of Age)" featured a lengthy guitar workout with the band; and "The Needle and the Damage Done" was a lament for great artists who had died of heroin addiction.
The album's success caught Young off guard and his first instinct was to back away from stardom. He would later write that "Heart of Gold" "put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch. A rougher ride but I saw more interesting people there."

Its one of my all time favourite albums (along with the previous Young album 'After The Goldrush')

Here's a great track from the album 'Old Man', his voice is great here and the sound from that Martin acoustic is sublime..

Are we including live albums?

Yes mate..

I just thought some albums are 'classics' and it would be good to discuss them

Im also hoping people will contribute with their choices and not just post video's and say things like 'this is awesome', or 'dross' a bit of background about the album/artist, the year etc, chart positions etc and a clip or song to give a representation of the album would be good.

Its just an idea for an ongoing thread. If people contribute in the right way we can get a really good thread going.

One of the greatest Blues guitarists that ever lived .
From Texas , brother of Jimmy Vaughan ( fab thunder birds ) , overcame drug addiction , won grammies , played on Bowies Let's dance etc , and died in a helicopter crash originally intended for Clapton .

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd.
I can listen to that whole album right through and then stick it back on again. Just pure class.

Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
I don't need to say how good this is.

There's loads.

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

After the success of his Hit single 'Brown Eyed Girl' a dispute with his record began and he was also threatened with deportation from the USA. Morrison hired a a jazz producer in Lewis Merenstein and a handful of session musicians and relocated to Century Sound Studios in New York. It was noted that most of the tracks were improvised and that Morrison would come into the studio armed with an acoustic guitar and walk straight to a both, never actually introducing himself to any of his colleges, Connie Kay the session drummer later said that he asked Morrison "what he wanted me to play, and he said to play whatever I felt like playing. We more or less sat there and jammed.".
The albums overlying theme is about love and heartbreak, the original vinyl release had each side given a diiferent name, side one being 'In the beginning' and side two being 'Afterwards'.

The album is generally regarded as one of the greatest albums every released and constantly appears in music mags top 10 albums etc, it is also quote by many other artists as an inspiration. It would also go on to become a sound unique to Morrison which would later be dubbed 'Celtic Soul'.

The back of the album also contained a hand written poem by Morrison:

I close my eyes and sleep for love comes flowing streams of consciousness
Soft like snow, to and fro,
Let us go there together, darlin', way from the river to here and now
And carry it with a smile, bumper to bumper
Stepping lightly, just like a ballerina.
