Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

Ok. Good idea, how about 5.00pm Wednesday evening For your list of tracks. We should score properly, I will retract my two scores until I have a listen on playlist. If everyone that wants to score would send me a pm. Stating the posters name and score and any comments, by 5pm Thursday I will get a top 10 published (if we get that many) by Friday.
I am REALLY sorry I missed this :( . . . will make sure to come on this thread more often!

Getting into a band via album is good, but with Rush, I bought the live albums and bought their stidio material from there.

Live after Death is magnificent, even Live at Donington in 92 is pretty fucking decent too.

I haven't seen Maiden since 1990, and hope to see them again. I reckon with Bruce having had tongue cancer, this may be the last.
That’s a very good point mate. A lot of the older acts have been a bit sad to watch decline live, but Maiden have continued to put on great shows and deliver decent versions of their songs, … but time catches up with them all.
Yeah, I was like that with Rush too. All The Worlds was my first album of theirs, followed by Exit Stage Left.
In fact for UFO and Scorpions I think I only own their live doubles.

I did wonder. all time classic rock album would have been right up your street!
I know I would have picked “Saturday Night Special” instead of “”What’s My Name?” :) Lyn Skyn really were a superb band — criminally underrated. Their Gold and Platinum greatest hits record is one titanic song after another.

But the winning record had some great stuff on it.

I would have had Aerosmith on mine for sure, “Sweet Emotion” probably.

Haven't seen Maiden live in a very long time. I actually saw them support UFO at Long Beach Arena in 1981. We were guests of UFO. Think we met Steve Harris at the Sunset Marquis where they were all staying but memory hazy on that one; not least because Ross Halfin introduced my friend to Sylvie Simmons (Sounds' American correspondent) as Sean Harris for a joke, and she fell for it. My friend had similar hair to Sean.

My problem with Maiden was that I considered them a poor man's Judas Priest. I've since bought a lot of Maiden albums on CD but I'd struggle to name a top 5: just don't know the music well enough, I'll have a go though:

Phantom
Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter
Number of the Beast
Run to the Hills
Can I Play with Madness

Saw UFO on their final tour, having not seen them since the 80's and they were very good. Been buying their latter day albums recently and they are also decent. Their Strangers in the Night live album is their peak without doubt.

Last time I saw the Scorps they were supporting Judas Priest and, ironically, I thought The Scorpions were better on the night.

The Skynyrd that were decimated by the crash were quite simply one of the greatest American rock bands.

Subsequent incarnations kept the name alive well on the concert circuit and I saw them several times, starting in 1987 when the tribute tour came to Nashville, but without Ronnie and then Allen, they lost a lot in the songwriting department.

All being well, I will see Aerosmith next June (it's been postponed twice); another of the greatest US rock bands. Their early Jack Douglas produced albums are a great body or work.

A to Z of Rock.
Thought it might be a good idea to spend a week at a time going through the Rock alphabet. Obviously not stopping other content but hopefully others join in.

One of my current favourite bands is Alter Bridge. Anyone looking for classic hard rock look no further.
I was watching Download on TV a couple of years back and noticed a superb singer fronting Slash’s band.
Just a little research revealed Myles Kennedy and his regular gig Alter Bridge. Anyway I bought “Walk the Sky” a few months ago and it’s superb. Great musicians and omg that voice.

On the prog side there is Arena. I’m interested in most things John Mitchell who is an underrated guitarist. The group are also driven by keyboard wizard Clive Nolan. The music is dark and brooding with hints of Nolan’s obvious love for Victorian England and the OperA. I bought Peppars Ghost and love the opener “Bedlam Fayre”
The negative for me is the dark and gloomy nature of the music.

and finally the negative which is/was Asia. Any group with Steve Howe grabs my attention. Add in Wetton and Palmer and you can’t go wrong - surely ?
Just my opinion but I find the music too radio orientated and often by numbers. Such a big disappointment.

so come on, please give us your thoughts from Alien Ant Farm and AC/DC to Aerosmith and Anthrax.
This weeks choice

Tried a couple of Alter Bridge albums, and find them a overlong, and also very one paced.Prefer Myles Kennedy’s other suff myself good singer.
My top two A s would have to be AC/DC and Aerosmith
