I think it may have been a full 2 hours show of Yes at Empire Pool Wembley (?), which to this day remains my favourite ever live recording of any Yes gig, official or bootleg :-)

Some interesting releases for you then in the last month or so. Simone Simons & Charlotte Wessels both dropped solo albums and then there's a new Nightwish album too amongst some other less well known names.

Wasn't sure where to post this , never heard of the group.... but they can play , I'm sure others will know of them ,
Apparently played on FM radio over in the states / Mexico 1967 - 1972 by a partc Mexican DJ who developed the underground rock scene of the time,with FM radio being the pilot.

Went to see Steve Hackett last night. Really first class show once again. He is the once and has been for the last few decades, who keep the spirit of Genesis alive and well. I wonder if any of the band members ever go to see his shows.

Played about an hour of his solo stuff including the ever sublime Everyday, and some new tracks, the opening couple of which were refreshingly different and enjoyable.

After the break songs from The Lamb mostly, followed by some from Selling and the inevitable Los Endos finale. His rendition of Cinema Show brought tears to my eyes and his version of Fly on a Windshield was the greatest I think I’ve ever heard. Moonlight Knight was the other ‘best of the best’ moment.

It did make me realise what a great record The Lamb was - I think he played 9 or so superb tracks from it, but that didn’t even include Back in NYC, Riding the Rapids or In The bloody Cage.

The only critical point I’d make is the overuse of the wind instruments. I know Gabriel played flute on some tracks, but this was overdone here on too many tracks so it ended up obscuring the keyboard sounds which were so integral to the Genesis sound, esp back then. Unnecessary spoiling imho, esp when so high in the mix.

Anyway, fabulous evening, and as long as he keeps touring, I’ll keep going :-)

Forgot to say it was a three generation trip. Took my dad who got me into Genesis, and my lad (at uni), who loves them.

My lad’s most played track last year on Spotify was ‘dancing with the moonlit knight’. He nearly jumped out of his chair when Steve said he was playing it!

Sadly, I didn't get / forgot to get tickets for this tour, but I've seen a couple of clips posted on Genesis Facebook pages, and he continues to do the business.

Everyday is my favourite song of his. The guitar solo (for me) is better than Firth of Fifth, but still behind The Lamia.

The Lamb just shades SEBTP as my favourite ever album. That "loud bit" on Fly on a Windshield, where all the instruments come in, is music perfection.

P. S. That wind fella really gets on my tits, too. I've got the DVD of the SEBTP/Spectral MORNINGS, and he turns I Know What I Like into some dreadful jazz ensemble, ruining what was always a Genesis live classic.

I’m always on the look out for decent tribute bands and I haven’t heard of them, so I’ll add them to the list, ta!
