I hope precisely the opposite, the bird has absolutely nothing to do with our current success, football club or the city of Manchester. It's an absurd marketing conceit misguidedly included to appeal to Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation enthusiasts.

I don't want the eagle either, but to say it has nothing to do with our recent success, or nothing to do with Manchester is just wrong.

The eagle is an old heraldic symbol of the city of Manchester; a golden eagle was added to the city's badge in 1958 (but has since been removed), representing the growing aviation industry.

I personally don't mind the new badge and think it's become synonymous with the current owners/setup.

Whatever they decide, I hope we don't go back to the old design. It's so dated...

Well considering it was added in 1958 (not sure when it was removed), it's not going to be on those buildings since they all pre-date 1958...and I doubt they considered updating the masonry on said buildings.

Lets be honest...nobody gives a flying fuck about the eagle's connection to Manchester...we just don't want it because it looks shite (In it's current form at least) and was invented by some tool at our kit manufacturers at the time

Maybe the words "Manchester City FC" and a predominantly sky blue colour should provide the distinctiveness you are seeking. Lose the bird - tasteless, baseless and feather-brained.

Great post mate, thanks for that.

This just further cements that we should have the ship and the 3 rivers. It represents the city of Manchester and that is what Manchester City Football Club should represent.

There's a running theme with people who would like the rose instead of the 3 rivers - "I'm a proud Lancastrian" or like the lady on the Blue Tuesday podcast "I grew up in Eccles and I always considered it part of Lancashire, not Greater Manchester".

Well no disrespect to those people, but how very self-centred to think the badge should reflect you and where you come from. It shouldn't, it should represent the club, and where the club comes from. The club has never been from Eccles, and it hasn't been in Lancashire since 1972.

To have the dominant element of the badge represent Lancashire because some of our fans grew up there, is just absurd. The badge should represent the CITY that the club represents, not a county that it was in 40 odd years ago.

The clue is in our name - Manchester CITY, the club is not called Lancashire County.

Personally, couldn't care less about the badge. I feel more of an affinity to the club colours than I do the badge, but if I had to choose between this current one and the previous one, I'd choose the current one. Only thing I'd change is get rid of the 3 stars.

The old round one is sooooo dated and with football being a global brand now, you need something that appeals to this generation as well, not just oldies harking back to the days of Summerbee and Bell.

It's a crest, it's about imagery, not literature.
