Club Brugge (H) - CL - Post-Match Thread

Is it just me but i cannot see all the hype about Cancelo. I personally thing he's rubbish. I mean he is a professional player playing for the best team in the world and is a Portuguese International...But dont you get sick and tired of all the balls he gives away...The City site has Foden and Pep singing his praises. I just dont see it !. Especially after todays game. Nearly every time he has the ball he gives it away or the opposition end up with it. To me he's another Sane …Pep got rid of him so I dont know why he perseveres with Cancelo. Look at his feeble attempts for the two Liverpool goals and that sums him up...That is just my opinion which Im allowed . Play him in midfield if you want but not full back. Rashford will rip him to shreds on Saturday if we do.
Forgot to mention he had three assists yesterday. A small detail I guess!

the ground wasn’t full of tourists. It was like the Leipzig game.

not moaning as I would prefer a full stadium with tourists than it be empty
But there was a school trip of about 30 at the game yesterday in the east stand with half/half scarfs.
And where I was sat it was full of tourists and it reflected with the atmosphere as no one around knew the songs to sing.
but again better to be full with tourists than empty seats.

Stopped going years ago, watched on BT and in bed by 10:00pm.

The team didn’t play well and only got a grip when Mahrez headed the second. Lots off sloppy passing, poor marking and reluctance to shoot.

Big improvement needed for Saturday.

we won 4 - 1 in a champions league game. You sound very spoilt.

when I was a kid growing up I could only dream of these nights. I was at the game and the second half was amazing full of chances for city

No one is denying he's a polarizing player.. but cmon- from a tactical standpoint he put's the team in some very bad positions, gets caught out of position constantly or just gives the ball away. I think these things can be worked on but on the whole I prefer Zinchenko, personally.
I think Cancelo's talent just dwarfs that if any fullback including Zee who himself has decent talent.

But Cancelo's decision making often leaves a lot to be desired :(

Faculty me. You come across as a nice cheerful bugger.

Maybe the most encouraging thing last night was the change in attitude from 1st half to 2nd half. That 1st half had Soton & Palace at home written all over it, so the change in pace and approach was great to see.

Can see from the celebration that it meant a lot for the others for Sterling to score that because Sterling himself wasn’t that elated for the goal.
It was the easiest of tap-ins, likely just the sheer relief is why he wasn't elated. If he had run round with his arms in the air then people on here would be giving him shit for celebrating a tap in!

Clearly Sterling getting a goal means an awful lot to the rest of the team, hardly fits the narrative on here that he is making trouble does it?

For this game, happiest for Sterling for his goal. Can see from the celebration that it meant a lot for the others for Sterling to score that because Sterling himself wasn’t that elated for the goal.

Confidence player who’s lacking some self belief or demotivated by something that happened off the field. But after he scored there were clear glimpses of the Sterling that scored 20 in a season.

I’ll play him before Grealish at this point. Grealish needs time to figure out his role in this team and he can try that out in less volatile games. I’ll start Sterling for the derby.
Bad idea. Gabriel is far superior in too many facets of the game.

Personally, I'd bench Gundogan, Grealish and Laporte for Kevin, Gabby and Dias... Then depending on Kyle's health, maybe start Zee at LB and Move Cancelo over to the right I'd Kyle can't go.

A patchy performance. First 10-15 mins were very good and second half was better. Same 2 players Bernardo and Rodri our best players by some distance.

Really disappointed with Grealish again but to think we need to give him time. Equally disappointed with Mahrez. Thought Sterling and Jesus gave us much more energy and directness.

I did enjoy the brief moments when we had Foden on the left, Jesus up front and Sterling on the right. Don’t think id be too disappointed to see that on Saturday.

Pretty laboured, slow first half performance. Second half we sprung into life and utterly dominated.

Credit to sterling for coming on and having an instant impact, looked a threat on the right. Hopefully this can be the start of better things for him. Clearly the position he prefers.

Grealish - its just not working for him out on the left, very predictable, and their right back had the easiest of games against him. Think a move to the middle would perhaps suit him better.

Shout out to Jesus who was class when he came on. And cancelo who was masterful all game!
