Clubs furloughing staff

If they spend millions buying players while furloughing players, then absolutely.

But I hardly expect that to happen.

Seriously, people need to get it into their heads that clubs could well be in trouble in the very near future. Strangely, the bigger the club, it's almost more likely that they will be in trouble because they will have a far bigger wage bill to honour. There's talk of players reluctantly taking a 30% pay cut but even that will only go a small way to solving the problem. 70% of a £250m wage bill, say, is still an impossible amount when no money is coming in.
If you consider the likes of Liverpool and Spurs putting none playing staff on furlough and asking players to take a 30% pay cut in just under one month since games stopped, then what will that situation look like after months 2 and 3 with a greatly reduced income? Three months is also the optimistic figure, could be up to six. They will either have to pay back TV money from the scrapped season or have next season’s money “written off”. So, just gate money and some sponsorships, again reduced.

I agree with Jim B. There could be some big name casualties.

Happy days, you tax payers who are out of a job and business and having to apply for £98 a week to feed your families are paying for the dippers amongst others,a club who has a billionare owner
