Coffee

I grind my own beans now, 70% Brazilian 30% Colombian. That way i get a nice zesty kick of the Colombian beans and the chocolaty nutty taste from the Brazilian beans. You also guarantee there is no filler. For pre ground stuff that Taylors after dark is lovely.

filler?

When you buy pre-ground stuff many companies bulk it up with dirt, ground up wood and other things that should not be in it. Buying beans is a good way of making sure you get just the coffee and not mostly coffee with a load of crap in it.

One American brand was tested and the foreign/non coffee stuff in it was at such a high level it was concluded this could only happen intentionally. That put me off trusting then then so whole beans it was.

Are they reliable and easy to maintain? Do you need to be using it daily?
It is an indispensable ritual every day for us but obviously you can use it as and when you wish. Just keep it topped up with beans and water - removing the pellet grounds when required. Stick your mug or mugs or expresso cups underneath (with hot milk from 30 secs in the microwave and sugar if you want them) just press one button once and the magic happens in about a minute. Twice for double strength with two smaller shots. You can use the frother for cappuccino/latte if you want but it takes practice to do it fast enough to keep the coffee hot.
Clean it maybe once a week, say a couple of minutes and descale every 6 months or so, takes 10 minutes.

You can use pre-ground if you prefer as well.
