We’ve now got people calling for him to be in the England squad etc, it’s the biggest problem with the media and young English players, they get overhyped far to quickly and it brings unnecessary pressure.

I’m not trying to knock him at all, I’m highlighting exactly what you’ve said he is looking good for Chelsea this season so far but is being talked about like he’s Messi, the media need to chill out a bit.You always have to dig a bit deeper than just looking at the stats alone. Palmer may well become a decent Premier League player but its to early to say with any certainty yet…
Cant really knock him tho, he went to play more football (got paid more also), is doing so and he’s made a reasonably decent start to his Chelsea career. If he gets 17/20 goals in his breakout season i think thats a decent outcome for him. Be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes…

I mean 8 goals and 7 assists in roughly 15 starts is genuinely excellent and anyone with those numbers would get the hype they deserve, no matter who they play for. I don’t think any of the attention Palmer is getting is overhype. I don’t even think he’s been getting that much hype to begin with.

He’s getting massive hype & he’s a huge talent. At City Pep would have challenged his weaknesses but in this Chelsea team it’s not discussed & maybe not developed. Penalties have inflated his out put but he was highly rated at City because he is huge talent & could well be a Mahrez.
There’s a reason we used to say ffs Mahrez ……

He’s overhyped because the media want to use him leaving as a stick to beat City with. They tried to do it with Sancho too.
For the hype he’s getting I’d be expecting him to be getting goals or assist from open play against more teams throughout the league.What stats do you expect?
I also get that taking and scoring a penalty isn’t easy but it does fluff up your goal stats.
He has goals against the bottom 3 and Utd(they lost that game 2-1) and he has assists against 2 of the bottom 3 and spurs who had 9 men, basically he’s had an open play impact in 5 games out of 17.
