Glad to hear it Ant.

Next time you visit him, you have to say something along the lines of "everyone's made up you're OK, but they all want to know one thing...can they have your ticket for Tuesday"

:o)

It makes no odds really - just do something and don't get hung up about the numbers!

(But it is 100 ;p http://www.redcross.org.uk/standard.asp?id=56929 watch the adult CPR video)

That video also tells you to do the 2 breaths after 30 compressions, which you have already rightly pointed out you don't have to do straight away if you don't wish to, however if this is the case you have to give 400 straight compressions THEN you have to give the 2 breaths, then 30 compressions, the 2 breaths etc etc (it's very tiring). Obviously there are no fast and hard rules - after looking through the internet I've noticed different sites say anything from 80 - 120 compressions per minute (to be fair to you most do say 100) but if you were to phone for an ambulance in ANY English speaking country in the world the Emergency Medical Dispatcher you speak to will instruct you to give 2 compressions per second - 120 a minute.

well the current guideline by the European resus council (who oversea it all) still state that compressions should be given at 100 per minute whether its a in hospital or out of hospital arrest.

Theres always a big discussion regarding the ratio of the number of compressions to ventilations (breaths)

But the current guidance is 30 compressions to 2 breaths. However ensuring the airway is open then commencing chest compressions are the most important things. Anything else is a bonus. Can I encourage everyone to go on a first aid course to learn some basic things which really could save one of your friends / relatives lives.

It really does make a difference when we see them in A&E.

Thoughts go out to the family and friends involved with the original poster.

well done to St. Johns. Without you big events wouldnt be allowed to run.
