Colour clashes and third kit

Imagine the uproar on here if the Sheikh decided we were changing our home colours to red due to some Abu Dhabi link similar to what happened at Cardiff.

Would hope there would be a 50,000 crowd protest (at least) outside the ground if someone ever tried that with us!

Would prefer to be shit again and poor than rich and winning playing in red. Doubt Mansour would ever contemplate something like that though thankfully!

I do agree with what you're saying, but kit changes aren't that rare in reality. Leeds played in yellow until the 60's when they copied Real Madrid. Barcelona actually were inspired by FC Basel as well. We've had subtle changes to and from darker blue. But you can't compare what us changing to red and Cardiff changing to red would be like because we have rivals that play in that colour. It would be more similar if we were playing in black and white striped or green... Which I dont think would be as bad. (But obviously would still be oposed to it).

Didn't we play Spurs one season at home in the fog and changed to the away shirt at half time?

If so were Spurs in white and did the ref ask us to change or was it just because our players couldn't pick one another out?

Next season: Home kit clashes with Aston Villa and West Ham, who both have light blue sleeves. If there is any incident where a player's arm is involved the referee needs to be a able to distinguish colours. This would be the same for Arsenal & Spurs. It's not too important for shorts but I would have thought it would be for socks, although the ref can probably distinguish between the different garish colours of boots that the players wear today.

Rumour has it that Arsenal started having white sleeves to make it easier for the ref could see them appealing for offside. Don't know if it's true.

We actually started the game in maroon and it wasn't until about five minutes in that I realised we weren't playing in blue. Spurs were wearing their all yellow kit that day
I can also remember City playing in the red & black away at home to Spurs in 85/86 season, Spurs played in white shirts pale blue shorts, and City started in sky blue shirts and white shorts, after 5 minutes the ref got City to change kits, City went on and won 2 nil (i think ?)

You only have to look at the history of the footy shirt frequency and rise of the away shirt and third shirt to see the amount of shirts we have had since the mid-90s is farcical. Demand fuelled too, no doubt.

anyone know the point of the thick white stripe on the goalkeeper kit?

on the ones Hart wore in the games were on the shoulders, yet on Richard Wrights, they were down by the cuffs on the long sleeve version .... look out of place, wondered if they were part of the design or something else?

Cheers lads, maybe it was both. I do remember the one Kev mentioned, maybe it was more colours than fog, I do remember a game where both teams had wishy washy colours and fog, we couldn't tell who was who, so maybe this was it. (The sky at the time was a lot lighter than today, maybe that shiny kit we had in the 80's)

There is a reason as by premier league rules you can only wear your away kit 7 or 8 times a season and its not only shirts that clash its shorts and socks so say we played Fulham away and we had used our away kit 7 times already our home socks would clash with Fulhams so we need a 3rd just in case

This is wrong sorry. There is not limit on how many times you can wear your away kit.

The ruling is around how many times you HAVE to wear it before you can sell it as a replica kit. If you wear a kit 8 times during a season then it becomes a replica kit, otherwise you have to release it as a limited edition. Think back to the third kits that are released on this basis.

The exception is the Euro Away Kit. No such rule applies so as long as we wear it in our away games then we can sell it in th shop.

It is a rule you can only wear your away kit 8 times a season

this can't be true surely.

It is likely written as a law in Financial Fair Play article 76, sub paragraph 12.

Have I missed any posts confirming the colours of the away and 3rd strips? Had my head up my arse for days.

Even a thought of that made me feel sick. Seriously.

The thought makes me cringe. I couldn't even post it being quite superstitious...

Our ownership is far too savvy to pull such a move. They seem to have struck a great balance between respecting and understanding tradition and pushing City forward.

The Cardiff thing still makes me a little mad every time I think about it.

Have you seen Cardiff's new kit? They ain't happy with it down here. Words escape me for how bad it is.

The rule is actually a maximum of 8 times if there is no clash (i.e. Norwich can have an away kit, even though they don't need one, but they can only wear it 8 times). If clashes necessitate a change, the away kit can be worn more than 8 times.
