It was the norm here up till the 80s tbf, all them bells on the skirting in old boozers for calling a bar staff over.

There should be no reason for table service not to be the norm like the rest of the world
 
Don’t know where you were brought up but in Manchester pubs there was no table service and I started boozing in the 60s.

Bradford labour club (now Mary D's) had it in the front bar.
Duke of York in gorton
Royal Oak in Gorton
Gardeners in Moston
You could go to the bar or press the bell and they would come over take your order and deliver to the table
 
There was a fight in me Dad’s local in Timperley last night.

He didn’t go in, he just heard off his mate today.
