Yes, I think he did, but I think Ken Dodd overtook that, but could be wrong.
He used to keep copious notes with all the thousands of jokes he'd written, but left all of them on a train, he was distraught at this and offered a large sum for their return, but I don't believe he got them. When I saw him, he was the best stand up I'd ever seen, and he still is, his content was unbelievable, he had a mind like a computer.

Ben Elton gone away?

He wrote 16 novels, 5 no. 1 best sellers.
He wrote Blackadder, Upstart Crow and several other tv scripts.
He wrote We Will Rock You and Love Never Dies musicals for the stage.
He has written several award winning plays too.
I think he was an ars as a comic, but he hasn’t gone away!

There was rejoicing yesterday, in some quarters anyway, at the news that comedian Bob Monkhouse's joke books, missing since July last year, had been recovered.

Yeah, I remember he wrote Blackadder, which was great, I was more referring to his stage act, which was similar to the woke crap we get subjected to now.
But, comedy's subjective, to each their own.
