It's expensive to host and the least significant tournament. Which means I fully expect a UK city to step up and host it so they can throw pots of cash at something pointless and pretend it will boost the economy.

Just like when we used to offer to host the Eurovision Song Contest when the previous year's winner couldn't/didn't want to host it in the mistaken belief it gave the the UK and BBC some added prestige. It didn't.

It’s a shame because I used to enjoy watching it back in the day and Manchester was buzzing when they held it, but times have changed, less money/more cost justification, countries don’t want to be associated with GB any more, and athletes have bigger fish to fry.
